I remember this place, Locket thought as she gazed around Maelstrom on the way to the mansion. It's been so long...
And, honestly, she hadn't done too much exploring back then. She remembered the temple. Her family had gone there often to pray to Efil and mourn the lost lives of those who could not escape the sinking of Contrasta. It stirred sorrowful feelings in her.
I guess, to me, Maelstrom is a place of mourning, she concluded. Well, I'll have to change that on this trip.
"What are you thinking?" she asked Nalani suddenly. The young woman looked a bit startled by the question. "Heh."
"Just that this place feels old," Nalani commented. "I didn't notice before, or perhaps just don't remember. And it might not be oldness, but there's a weight to this place. In the air. I can't really define it."
Not feeling the same, Locket didn't comment on that. "Someone back home told me that the Soahcian branch of the temple here is actually very impressive. I'm looking forward to seeing it. I trust you'll join me."
A look of discomfort passed over Nalani's features, but she bowed her head. "I do as my lady commands, Locket; you know that."
"Pah, that's just your way of telling me that you don't want to," Locket snorted. Nalani smiled, despite herself. "And until you get the spine to actually say as much, you're right--you'll do as I say."
"Very well. I don't want to go."
"Well too late now."
Locket grinned widely at the frustrated growl Nalani made at that.
When they arrived at the mansion, she brushed her hand affectionately against Nagi's. "Excited to resume your studies, love?"
