Cloak brushed back one of Fausta's white curls, tucking the hair behind her ear. "You look very good," she murmured, then moved on to the boys to fuss over their outfits.
The family had been invited to a ball hosted by Lord Delroy for the Morilantan upper class society. Demons attacking the world didn't matter a great deal in some ways. Morilanta had thusfar remained relatively unbothered by the incursion. Save for a few rogue demons, most did not seem inclined to harass Morilantans. Whether this was out of reverence for the Force they worshiped or other reasons was unclear, but the Morilantan people were happy to allow life to continue as always.
That meant there were deals to be made, backs to be stabbed, alliances to forge. The best place to do all this and more would be the ball.
Fausta frowned, unhappy. A ball also meant that she and Deodan would be pressed hard by people seeking to marry their offspring off. It would be all social visitations, of course. Calan and Cloak would be the ones approached with actual marriage proposals by other fathers and mothers.
"Smile," Cloak instructed. "We are going to dazzle everyone." She spread her arms, letting them see her black and purple gown made of the highest materials. "Our family will surely be the best dressed. A minor House we may be, but we'll fit right in with even the Empress and Emperor if they decide to make an appearance."
"It is hard to smile when I'm aware that I'll have at least a few men slobbering all over me like a choice slave tonight," Fausta scowled.
