Dara blinks in confusion as she appears in Maelstrom. She eyes her can of Vault suspiciously and takes a sip. "I can taste that. And feel the fizzy. I'm awake. What. The. F***?!"
Stepping out into the street, she pulls her sunglasses off of her head and puts them on. "I have either gone totally insane, or something really weird just happened. Where the hell is this?"
Northen staggered into her study to check on Naruta, still in her nightclothes and slipper socks. Clicking on Maelstrom, she doesn't even have a chance to swear as the light washes over her.
----
"What the hell?" Northen snarls as she blinks to clear her vision. "Kyle I'm going to... Oh..." Northen trails off as she looks around. The sensation might be the same, but this is definately not one of Kevanick's fanfics she's been pulled into. In fact, it looks disturbingly like... "Maelstrom," Northen breathes. "Oh Soahc, Etaf and Taed..." Looking down at herself, Northen takes stock of what she has with her. "MP3 player with 50% battery remaining, A Game of Thrones and my pjs with the hole in the knee..." she sighs. "I hate Mondays..."
Dara blinks as Northen appears, taking in her modern-day nightclothes. "Hey!" She runs over to the other girl as well as she can in a pair of thin socks. "Do YOU have any idea what's up? Or better yet, where we are?"
"In reverse order, Maelstrom appearently and not a clue," North replies, looking Dara over. Quickly she yanks off her slipper socks and tosses them to Dara. "Here. They at least have a bit of a sole and I'm used to bare feet. So... Which of the group are you? Not sis, I know that."
"Thanks," she says, pulling on the slipper socks. "I'm Dara, and judging from the accent and mention of 'sis,' you've gotta be North." Dara looks around the city in slight dismay. "It just had to be a city that I don't have any people in. Oh well, at least it's not Ekaitz."
She looks back at North. "What d'you think we should do? Pay Shadow a visit?"
North sighs. "I'd say it's good to meet you in person, Dara," she mutters. "But this was never what I had in mind when I said the players had to get together." She sighes again and considers the suggestion. "I don't know Dara... I don't particually want to give him and Lya heart failure... And what do we say? Hi! Don't mind our clothes. We're from another universe and spend our time manipulating your lives..." She glances down at her palms and rolls her eyes.
"Well at least which ever Force, and i'm guessing Soahc, got bored also decided to give us a chance of surviving," she mutters, holding out her hands to show the Storm sign on her right palm and the Water on her left. "What sign are you?"
"At least we saved on airfare? Man, I wonder if everyone else is gonna get pulled in and where they'll all end up," Dara says, looking down at herself to see if she can find a sign. "I better not have to strip down to find the damn things...ah, there's one." She holds up her right arm to show the Mind sign on the underside of her wrist.
"Well, with all the stuff that's happened here so far, the 'we're from another world' thing might not go over THAT badly. And it probably is Soahc's fault. Oh, cool." Dara holds up the first two fingers of her left hand in a "v," displaying the feather symbol curving between them. "Wind/Mind."
"Nice," North grins, then goes back to looking around thoughtfully. "I don't think we should talk to any characters, not just yet. I'm a bit worried about what'll happen if we break the fourth wall. This isn't the chat after all." She sighes. "For now, I think we're going to have to play Soahc's game, Dara. I doubt we're his only victims, so let's see if we can find a way to blend in and see if we can find the others."
Northen checks her pocket and sighs. "Naturally Soahc wouldn't make this easy," she mutters. "I don't suppose you have any copper on you?"
"Dude, I think just being here has shot the fourth wall to hell already," Dara mutters, looking down at herself. "Blend in. Right."
At least I hadn't done laundry yet, she thinks. Since her usual stretchy yoga pants were in the hamper, she'd put on a pair of khaki capris with laces near the bottom. Still pretty odd for Naruta, but at least they're more pants-like. And with pockets.
"Soahc? Make things easy? Ha!" Dara drains the rest of her soda and checks her pockets. "Um...no copper, but I wonder if I could sell these," she says, pulling a few single-strand necklaces out of her pocket. "I was going to redo the price tags on these and I just stuck them in there while I was looking for the tags on my desk."
North looks down at her clothing and sighes. "I think we're going to have to find someone to donate the contents of their washing line to the 'get us home' foundation," she sighs. "PJs that are suitible for an Australian late spring are NOT comfy here. But selling those might let us buy food or something. I don't know about you, but I haven't even had breakfast yet."
"It was afternoon for me, so I'm not really that hungry right now, but I'm gonna need something later. Hopefully, we meet someone with more money than sense, eh?" Dara says with a slight grin. "I've got no clue what these would be worth here. Normal clothes would be good, though," she adds. "So long as it doesn't involve a skirt."
Northen laughed. "On that, we certainly think alike," she remarked with a grin. "Okay, follow me. I think I have a good enough mental map of this place to find somewhere we can 'borrow' clothes from." With that, North set off down the twisting back streets of the city, pausing as she spotted clothing on the line of a house that looked like it was reasonably middle class. "That'll do," she told Dara. "Give me a bit of a boost getting over the wall?"
Dara follows North through the streets, having absolutely NO clue where anything is in Maelstrom herself. Ilyamen or Talen'sul are more her speed.
"You got it," she says, moving to help North over, idly wondering if she could manage teleporting to the other side instead.
Better not. Just my luck, I'd land us in Shadow's lap or something, she thinks.
"Ooh, hey. You think we'll see Twilight while we're here?"
"Oh Efil I hope not," North sighed as she scrambled onto the top of the wall and glanced down. Satisfied that she'd be able to use a tree in the garden to get back over the wall, she twisted back to grin at Dara. "I'll be back in a second," North assured her friend before lightly dropping to the ground. Instantly she hissed in pain as the impact jarred her ankles, but she brushed that off and hurried to the clothes line. Good, only slightly damp, she thought, snatching up a couple of sets of shirts and breeches and even a jacket that looked like it might fit her, though she couldn't see another one for Dara. Not wanting to waste any more time, North bundled her stolen goods under her pj top and used the tree to get back to the top of the wall.
Landing on the other side, she winced again as she hit the ground. "That's so much easier with shoes," North remarked to Dara, tossing the other girl her share of the clothing.
"Thanks," she says, examining the clothing. "I guess shoes'll be hard to come by like this. Most folks don't leave those outside." Dara sighs. "Man, I wish I hadn't kicked of my sneakers before sitting down."
"Why don't you want to see Twi?" she asked North curiously, slipping the shirt on over her t-shirt. "He's hot."
"Because in Twi's original form, he was my self-insert's nephew," North replied simply. "It's disturbing to think of someone as 'hot' when you at one point baby-sat them. Besides, we have more important things then flirting to worry about." Idly she lifts a hand to her throat to see what necklaces she's wearing. Silver chain with half of a 'sisters' charm on it - too moden for this time - and her handmade amethyst necklace, with the old fasioned clasp. That she could keep on. With a sigh, Northen takes off the sisters necklace and tucks it into a pocket. "Well, want to head to the markets? Then... Talen'sul?" she asks.
"Who said anything about flirting? I'd just like to see the man and drool from afar," Dara says, grinning slightly. "Besides, it's not like I'd attract his attention loking like I am." Well, not the good kind of attention, anyway.
"Market and Talen'sul sounds good to me. If nothing else, the bard guild should be welcoming. Um..." she pauses, looking a tad uncomfortable. "How high up do the trails or roads or whatever to Talen'sul go?"
"You're female and breathing," North replies dryly. "That's enough for Twi." Eying Dara, she adds, "Highish, I'd imagine. Dara... do you have... an issue with heights?" Inwardly, North cringes. Well it's slightly better then 'Are you scared of heights?'... Very slightly.
"Bugger. Yeah, heights are one of two things that really freak me out," Dara says, making a face. "I can manage if there's like, trees and stuff around an incline, or if it's along slopes instead of just a sheer cliff face. Last time I was really bothered was being on the roof of a shed that was on the roof of a 10-floor building. Flat with nothing around to hold onto and a straight drop. I made the mistake of looking down to the roof below and relised where I was. Had to crawl back to the ladder. And now I'm rambling, so I'm gonna shut up," she finishes.
North gives Dara a sympathic look. "My mum hates heights too," she replies. "I'll tell you what. I'll walk on the edge of any path that has a drop on one side, so it shouldn't be any worse then climbing a hill." Suddenly thinking of something, Northen digs frantically through her pockets and pulls out her asthma reliever. Judging the weight, she sighes. "Only half full and no preventor... Hopefully I won't need it."
"Too bad I didn't happen to pick up mine earlier," Dara muses. "Maybe healing water would have an effect on an attack? At least there's no real rush, so we can take it easy," the woman adds, looking around for any passers-by and quickly swapping pants.
"Well, let's head to the market and see if we can sell those necklaces," she says. "I wonder what the going rate on C-grade pearls is around here."
And maybe Twilight will be around there, too she thinks to herself. Ah, hope springs eternal.
Northen switches her own pants just as quickly and nods. "It might," she agrees. "Come on, the markets are this way." With that she leads Dara out into the main streets and into the markets. "Hmm... looks like there's a jewel merchent over there, let's try him," she suggests.
