Locket bit down on a knuckle as she looked out the frosty window. Visibility was poor that day so there wasn't much to look at, but her mind was fully occupied with thoughts of the current epidemic to sweep Naruta.
It doesn't end, does it? she thought wearily. So much had happened in the past ten, twenty years that she could scarcely believe it. She wasn't sure if it was Naruta itself or if just as much would have wracked Contrasta had the homeland never sunk. Was it just the times?
She pushed all those silly theoretical thoughts aside. Those were problems for thinkers to grapple with. It was hard not to be pensive, but as usual, Locket knew she'd feel better doing than just thinking which brought her right back to her current problem.
How could she help with this sleeping sickness business? And, even more importantly, how could she make sure her family would remain safe?
Maybe I could do a bit of investigating, she thought. A princess ought to be well informed, right? Feeling her spirits lift a bit at the fact she now had a goal, she turned on her heel and went to fetch a cloak, though got distracted halfway and turned around for the kitchens. It'd be in poor form to show up anywhere without a gift, now wouldn't it?
After getting properly bundled up for the weather and having rummaged around for some tasty, if slightly stale, leftover cookies from a couple days ago, Locket commandeered a guard for her trip and made her way out into Malagard proper. Not certain where to start, she made her way to the market to see if she could pick up some gossip or at least pounce someone who looked halfway sociable to chat with.
