Feyling - Member for 3 Months
Reduced Price: 500 brownie points
A feyling is a human who has bonded to a type of faerie known as a sprite. Sprites are very small faeries that hatch from tiny eggs. Sprites start out no bigger than a couple of inches tall, and eventually grow to be between four and six inches. They look just like little humans with butterfly wings, and are found in a variety of colors. A sprite's wings and skin are all the same hue. Sprites are born fairly knowledgeable about themselves and other faeries, and can speak the human tongue. They are capable of living unbonded for long periods of time, but no sprite finds this a desirable position, as they rely on a bonded companion to help protect them (and keep them company.)
While a sprite can bond with any living creature, they prefer to bond to humans. They do this by flapping their wings very hard in front of the nose and mouth of the human they wish to bond with, causing them to inhale a powdery dust. Once they do, the deed is done and they become "best friends" (as the sprites put it) forever.
Physical changes include:
- Elongated, pointed ears (think elf ears.) This change occurs during the feyling's first sleep after bonding.
- Heterochromia. One eye remains the human's natural color, one eye matches the color of their sprite (even if it's an unnatural color, like red or orange.) Like the ears, this will happen in the feyling's sleep.
- Inability to digest meat or 'human' foods such as bread. They're limited to eating naturally found foods, such as fruits, vegetables, and nuts. A human who eats something outside this strict diet will become very ill. HOWEVER, a human who refuses to adapt to the vegetarian restriction will begin to overcome it. Their sprite will change in turn, transforming into what is known as an 'unseelie' faeried, with sharp teeth and a predatory demeanor.
- Feylings do not physically age.
- Immunity to illness
- Wildlife and other animals will be unbothered by the presence of a feyling. Feylings can walk right up to creatures if they like. Animals will, however, fight back if attacked.
Sprites derive nourishment from their bonded companions, which is why a feyling's diet affects them. Although they can eat, they prefer to be sustained by their companions. Personality-wise, most sprites are highly energetic and excitable. They can sense and be influenced the emotions of their bonded, but this goes both ways and the feyling can feel the emotions of their sprite as well.
A sprite cannot survive the death of its bonded companion, and too great a distance between the pair (we're talking a nation apart) can strain the bond to the point of breaking, which may also cause the sprite's death. A feyling, however, can easily survive the death of their sprite; sprites were created to be bonded to something, while humans weren't. However, an unbonded feyling is no longer a feyling, and will return to their fully human state.
If you decide to play a feyling, I will play an unbonded sprite (of your choice in gender and coloration unless you don't care, in which case it's random!) that comes to your human character and bonds with them. After that event, I will send you a brief description of your sprite's personality and you get to play them from then on out along with your feyling.
Vampire - Member for 6 months
Reduced Price: 500 brownie points
Vampires, like all undead, are agents of Taed. They come into existence at his whim, either to act as a tool of his vengeance, or as a compassionate gesture to the soul of a devoted Taedean who wishes to return to life.
Because of this, all vampires have a limited amount of time before they're recalled back into the heavens. Taed does not like letting souls pass back into the mortal realm. The amount of time a vampire has varies, but generally will not exceed five in-game years (although if an especially well-liked soul needs more time to finish whatever their task is, they can request an extension from Taed. This would cost more brownie points and you can only ever get one extension.)
Vampires have a lot of drawbacks. These include:
- They cannot tolerate the light of the sun and will burn.
- They cannot tolerate holy symbols of Efil. The others are fine, however.
- They cannot enter a home/pass a threshold uninvited.
- They can heal, but at a far slower rate than a normal human.
- They must drink blood regularly. Blood from an animal is acceptable, but not nourishing; they must drink daily if subsisting on animals. Human blood keeps a vampire fed for three to seven days, depending how deeply they drink. The blood must be from a living creature, however. Blood from the dead will only make them ill.
There are some advantages as well.
- Vampires are physically superior to humans. They are faster and stronger with greater stamina.
- Vampires can take a great deal of damage before their body ceases to function, effectively "killing" them (at which point the soul returns to Taed.)
- Vampires do not technically need to sleep, although what else are you going to do while waiting for nightfall?
- Vampires retain their signs (or are given the same signs they had in life.)
If a vampire greatly displeases Taed, they will find their time amongst the living abruptly cut short.
Demonoid - Member for 1 year
This is someone who either:
A) is descended from demons (which makes them either a child from the rash of demons in years 1018-1021, or has been very, very good at passing as a human from the demon incursion in 1002)
or B) Made a deal with our 'deal-making devil,' and part of the payment (or the wish) was agreeing to become partly demonic.
Demonoids are still mostly human, but have a measure of demonic essence. Their powers and appearance are highly customizable and will need to be worked out with me before approval. Ultimately, they're only a little stronger than humans. Some have signs, but some do not. Note that demonoids who are not skilled at passing as human or otherwise protecting themselves will find themselves hunted by humans.
Faerie - Member for 1 year
Faeries are interesting creatures, even if they don't have a great deal going for them over humans. A faerie is effectively immortal, but they can still be killed. They tend to live in the deep wilds of an area, living in harmony with nature. Some faeries may grow restless or mischievous and venture closer to humans in order to play tricks or otherwise seek entertainment.
Faerie appearances are entirely customizable. They do not have much in the way of powers, however. Like feylings, wild animals do not bother them. They also are able to acquire certain powers dependent on types of plants ingested. They have no need to sleep and are not bothered by natural elements such as heat or cold (though they may have a preference for a season.)
Faeries have no signs. They also have no sense of morality. Love and Evil are foreign concepts to them, and neither of those Forces exist in their souls to any degree. They are driven entirely by whim and fancy and are highly selfish creatures. While never cruel for the sake of being cruel, they may be cruel for amusement. But they may also be kind. They tend to be highly fickle.
Faeries are also incredibly rare. There can be no more than one playable faerie per nation.
Demons - Member for 1 year and a half
Demons are exactly what they sound like: creatures of Evil from the Abyss. Their abilities and appearance are limited only by your imagination and what I'm comfortable with allowing. Further details need to be gone over with by me.
Keep in mind that humans and Forces alike wish to see them dead. Holy water is painful to them and they have trouble entering temples and Force Homes (except Evil's in Morilanta) proportionate to their power. Weaker demons tend to have less trouble around temples than the stronger ones.
Angels - Member for 2 years
Angels are the beloved of the Forces. They are the souls of the departed that have made some great mark in the world or done something to garner the affections and attentions of a Force. They are the heralds of the Forces and are even sent to give blessings from time to time.
An angel may have the run of the heavens but they may also wish to re-experience mortality for a time without going through the process of being reborn. Any angel that's been dead for at least 100 years is allowed to make a little trip to the mortal world. A vacation, if you will.
These visiting angels look exactly like a normal living human. They still have their sign and there's nothing outward to distinguish them. However, at will, an angel may manifest or hide their wings. They are cut off from the heavens and so must either remain on the mortal realm or cut their trip short prematurely (at which point they cannot return again for another hundred years.) They can rest easy knowing the Forces are watching over them, however.
As far as powers, beyond use of their sign, an angel can also create minor miracles and blessings. These must be approved by me and will always cost brownie points to perform.
If an angel in mortal guise is slain, their soul returns back to the heavens... and the killer likely has made an enemy of the Force whom the angel belonged to!
Angels cannot remain on the mortal realm indefinitely, but the Forces are more lax in how long they'll allow one to remain. "Living" time varies wildly.
