Shadow was quiet as he walked back to the sanctury with Artica and her siblings, lost in thought. He wasn't sure how he was going to tell his family that he wouldn't be returning from the battle. But it was better to tell them, wasn't it? Well, Ann and Luminous at least. Dami and Alyssa were too young, better they not know in advance, but the girls weren't children. They were young women who were old enough to handle the truth rather then being lied to. Lumi in particular needs to know, Shadow thought grimly. Lya will need her support.
"Artica?" he asked aloud, breaking the silence of the group as he paused by the fountain. "Can you keep Dami and Alyssa busy for awhile while I talk to Ann and Luminous? Keep them with you?"
"Of course, Shade," Artica replied, giving him a sad little smile. "In fact, why don't you wait here? Tavin, tell Luminous and Ann to come out to the fountain and we'll keep the little ones occupied while you and the girls take a walk, Shade."
"That sounds good," Shadow agreed. "Thank you both."
Tavin reached out mentally, feeling for the familar feel of Ann's mind. ~Ann, can you and Princess Luminous get away from the children for awhile? Artica, Aidden, Tavia and I will look after them, but Shadow needs to talk to you both. He's waiting by the fountain.~
Currently spending time in the Efilian tree, since it had been the quietest place the family had felt comfortable in while they waited for the Chosen to return, Ann flinched just slightly. Setting aside the book she'd been pretending to read and glancing over to make sure that Alyssa, Dami and Shade were absorbed in the story Flame was telling them, she casually made her way over to touch Luminous on the shoulder. "I think I need some fresh air. Come for a walk with me, Lumi?" Under her breath, she whispered for only Luminous to hear, "Uncle Shadow's by the fountain. Tavin said he needs to talk to us."
And wasn't that something unsettling. Ann couldn't think of a good reason her uncle would want to talk to the pair of them alone.
