Investigation Part Four|Talen'sul Merc Guild

The mercenary guild was busy as usual, with mercs training, tending their gear, exchanging news and generally going about their day. But Shadow and Thelon were noticed almost as soon as they entered and the mood in the building took on a slightly uneasy air to it.

"We're looking for Amaro Melissan," Shadow annouced. "Where is he?"

Zevran eyed the two leaders and replied, "The captain is in the training yard. He prefers not to be disturbed when he's with his nephew, however. If your majesty requires the guild's services, you're welcome to leave a request in his office."

"We require Amaro Melissan," Thelon replied simply. "It's urgent. Where is the training yard? We'll speak with him in person, thank you." He tried to keep his tone neutral. There was no point in starting a hostile conversation when he was pretty sure it was going to come to him anyway if Amaro was anything like his sister.

Zevran brushed a hand over his mind sign, warning Amaro of who was here. "Go through that door and you'll find him," he replied and gestured at the door in question before he turned back to finishing his meal.

Shadow strood out into the yard and met an irritated glance from Amaro with a cool stare.

"Spice, go inside," Amaro told his nephew grimly. "Get a drink and we'll finish this later." Any visit from Brightmore is sure to be unwelcome, he thought.

Spice hesitated, boggling at the sight of the king himself. "Wow.. Um... Hello and goodbye Majesty!" He bobbed awkwardly in a bow before scampering off. King or no, he didn't want Amaro mad at him for disobeying.

"Greetings, Lord Melissan," Thelon began. "We're here to inquire into a murder and would like to ask you some questions."

"Melissan-Ronoh, actually," Amaro corrected, his tone cool and controlled. His thoughts showed he was a good deal more in control of his temper then Acqua was, though he had no more fondness for Shadow then his sister did. It did however irritate him to be addressed by the title he felt should have died with his father and uncle. "Who's murder? And what makes you think I know anything of it?"

"Tres Redway," Shadow replied. "Formally Tres Legend."

Amaro glanced at Thelon. "My sympathies for your loss, Master Redway," he remarked calmly. "But still, I don't see what this has to do with me? It has been several decades since I last crossed paths with your wife."

His thoughts showed his direction of the question to Thelon was both a deliberate snub to Shadow as well as an honest preference to deal with Thelon. Amaro didn't trust Shadow not to be setting him up for something.

Thelon didn't mind speaking with Amaro directly, though it did mean he could only browse Amaro's surface thoughts without looking obvious about what he was doing. "Thank you. I'm currently on the hunt for her killer. Her murder was tied up in politics, however... Politics of which you do have a big part of. Tell me, do you have your House sigil with you at this moment?"

Amaro frowned at that. Noble politics, he thought with a mental sigh. He loathed this nonsense. "No," he replied simply. "I believe it's in my office or at home. I don't have much call to wear or use it." Acqua, Bas and Pas tend to be the only members of the family who actually wear their rings on a regular basis.

"So you haven't sent any letters to Maelstrom lately?" Shadow demanded.

Amaro gave Shadow an irritated look. "I send letters to my family and a few other people I know."

"We have reason to suspect you in the murder," Thelon replied bluntly, trying his trick of a 'headache' again to reach his signs, closing his eyes as he did. "I don't wish to believe that is true, so can you offer a good reason why we shouldn't suspect you? Your brother was slain in Shadow's service and that's a good motive for revenge."

Amaro's temper was barely under control. "If I wanted revenge, we'd already need a new king. I certainly wouldn't go after a woman who I barely recall and who has no connection to my brother's death. And I seriously resent the accusation."

It would be no great loss if we DID need a new king. At least the daughter takes after her mother, it seems, was Amaro's snarled thought, but despite the insulted fury, there was no trace of deception in his thoughts, only a strong desire to throw both of the leaders out of his guild.

~He's honest~ Thelon reported to Shadow. "Thank you," he told Amaro. "That will be all." He touched Shadow on the shoulder again. "Perhaps we should return home to rest." ~I have no desire to head to Ekaitz in anything but top condition.~

Yes, I agree. Let's go, Shadow thought, irritably.
