Gingtaras watched as the remains of his forces swept through Second Hope, making short work of the few people who had decided to stay behind after the evacuation. He frowned deeply.
Aaren Cairbre, the First Mate of the Dread Lord, glanced at his lord and companion. "I'd thought you'd be rejoicing. This was so easy, we didn't lose a single ship. I imagine Celentia's scrambling like madmen."
"No doubt hampered by all the mouths of Second Hope crying out to them as they crowd the shores," Gingtaras grunted. I had hoped to cut down the Isle of Heirs. Celentia doesn't need any more help. Right now I'm sure they're a liability, but they'll put weapons in the hands of some of those who took shelter and then that's just more resistance for us later on."
"So we aren't going to take Celentia?" Aaren pressed.
"No," Gingtaras answered grudgingly. "It's not a good decision but our options aren't better. If we go head to head with Celentia now, we stand to lose everything. Waiting gives them more time to prepare themselves and to launch counter attacks, but it also gives us more time to prepare our defenses."
"Do you think Emperor Saul will be able to handle the potential problem of Naruta?" Aaren inquired.
Gingtaras spit over the rail. "No. Morilanta's desperately lucky they haven't been ground into the dust by the other nations by now if Saul's story is accurate. So we must time this perfectly. Strike after we've taken a breath and gotten our men rested and replenished, but before Celentia can turn to the north for hope of aid. This will be dicey."
"Your Lordship loves to gamble," Aaren pointed out with a thin smile.
Gingtaras grinned at that. "I do," he agreed. "So let's see how the dice roll. Meanwhile, let's go cast an appreciative eye over our new home."
