Going Around|Clan Char, Naurorod

Slaadi had been traveling for just over a week now and the landscape was just beginning to change. Thanks to his affinity he was quite at home in the desert, and a capable scavenger. He had pushed for speed the first few days, worried about being caught. But he now spent half of his time lounging on his horse's back, and half walking along beside her to conserve the beast's energy. Of course Dune, lazy as she was, spent most of her time either on the horse or Slaadi himself.

He had been trying to keep an idea in his head of just where in the desert he was, and he figured he was getting close to clan Char. This was going to be the tricky part, he thought. If anyone from the other clan caught sight of him, chances were they wouldn't let him get any farther and he'd end up back home before he knew it. Of course, he'd been heading south-east in anticipation of this, and now decided it was time to head straight east instead.

From his perch on the horse's back he grins to himself. As long as I keep an eye out I should be able to go right around them without anyone noticing. It was foolproof, but it couldn't hurt to be careful. Rubbing the sign on the back of his neck he calls out, seeing if maybe there are any animals around he can ask about the area.

The area near the clan was not precisely flourishing--the clan hadn't hunted everything out, of course, but they had thinned the popularity. There was a vulture circling overhead not far away and a small herd of wild horses farther south.

There were also tame horses not too far away, also from the south. Two people were out riding.

[Skittlebug]

Peering around Slaadi notices the two riders and his eyes widen. Quickly he lays forward over his horses neck, flattening himself out hoping to avoid being spotted. He stays still for a few moments, trying to think straight, and eyes the nearer herd of horses. Carefully he steers the mare toward them, thinking that he might be able to hide himself amongst the herd before he's noticed. Doing his best to keep an even pace that won't stand out, hopefully looking like one of the herd who wandered a little too far, he gets ready to try and calm the other horses if they get nervous.

[Kender Bard]

The horses do grow nervous and skittish immediately, whickering and moving away at a quick pace. They mutter amongst themselves, "Human. Human. Human."

Slaadi curses to himself and twists a little to reach his sign. He tries his best to calm them down, Trying to plan what he'll do if they don't. "We're friends, don't be afraid we don't want to hurt you. I need your help to hide from other humans."

[Kender Bard]

The horses calmed a bit--this was one of the beast-humans. They were more trustworthy. The horses calmed and began to come closer, cautiously.

"What help?" one horse inquired carefully.

[Skittlebug]

Slaadi grins, relieved, and keeps his mare heading toward them at a slow, nonthreatening pace.

"There are two other humans not far away and I can't let them find me. I'm trying to find my mother, but they'll stop me if they see me. Will you please let me hide among you until they're gone? I promise I don't mean any harm to any of you, as soon as they're gone I'll be on my way."

[Kender Bard]

"Very well," the horse agreed and the herd began to envelope his mare and him. "Lie low. We'll be moving away from them."

The riders were coming closer but at no great speed. Whoever they were, they were taking a relaxed pace.

[Skittlebug]

Slaadi nods tries to make himself even flatter on the mare's back, even pulling his pack from behind and holding it to make a lower profile. He guides her among the other horses, trying to get close to some of the taller ones.

[Kender Bard]

The herd continues to move away at a steady pace from the human riders. After a while, they turn and begin to head back, steadily disappearing back on the horizon.

"It is safe," the lead stallion informs the rest of the herd and Slaadi. The horses whicker, glad, and get back to grazing.

[Skittlebug]

Slaadi grins widely and pushes himself back upright, stretching a bit before pulling his pack back over the mare's back. He takes a quick look around, just to see for himself, then turns to the stallion bowing his head respectfully, the horse may not understand the gesture, but it was proper after all.

"Thank you very much for your help, I couldn't have gotten away without you. I hope you find good grazing."

With that he urges his mare to the east, feeling pretty good after his escape. If his luck held out he'd be in the Beastlands in no time.
