Pas and Bas grinned, gave the cats and kittens a last pat then eagerly lead Lumi up to their room. By now the house had been cleaned and tidied - in part because Mat had hired a few people to help with the cleaning of the house. Both the young women he'd hired had relatives in the guild - one was a guild orphan who'd been raised in the guild, but had no talent for theft and the other was the sister of a guild thief - so he was confident that they didn't need to worry about the children saying something they shouldn't.
"Isn't this great?" Pas asked. The room was still really only set up for one child to sleep, as no one had yet found the will power to haul a second bed up the steep staircase, but the twins were perfectly comfortable sharing for the moment. Aside from the single bed, the room looked comfortable and lively, with a bright, soft rug on the floor and toys scattered about, including the pieces of a puzzle that the twins had been putting together before breakfast.
Being a tower room with a window on each wall, the room was always warm and brightly lit during the day and really did have a great view of the city.

Luminous couldn't imagine feeling that way about anybody really. She was more than happy to keep all her things to herself. She shook her head slightly. "If you say so," she replied dubiously. "Say how about the next time I come visit though I bring you a present? This place is kind of bare. It could use something colorful."

"You don't have to," Bas replied.
"Yeah, it's not our birthday or anything," Pas added. He flopped onto the bed and looked around the room before admitting, "I guess it is a little bare. But we did just move here, so we haven't had time to put anything on the walls and stuff."
"I don't think uncle Amaro decorated his room much when it was his," Bas added thoughtfully, then grinned. "He did have a teddy bear here though, and gave it to Muma. Uncle Talon said so."

Luminous tittered slightly at that. "Maybe you guys should give him a teddy back in case he misses his." She didn't know the man well enough to say how well that'd go, but his reputation certainly did precede him.

Bas and Pas cracked up laughing at that idea. "Maybe we should," Bas giggled.
"Well, I came up here to see if anyone wanted something to drink, but perhaps I'd be wiser to ask maybe you should what?" Acqua asked, leaning against the door frame.
"Give uncle Amaro a teddy bear in case he misses the one he gave you," Pas told his mother with a grin. Now it was Acqua's turn to burst out laughing.
"As amusing as that might be, he'd blame Talon or me and I'm not in any shape to outrun him right now," she told the children, amused. "But then, maybe having a teddy to cuddle would soften his temper a little and you'd get to see his soft side more often."
The twins looked doubtful that Amaro even had a soft side.

Luminous just raised a brow before going on to say, "How much longer until your baby is born, Lady Sanderson?" She snapped. "Mother bids me to say she hopes that everything goes smoothly for you... whatever that means."

Acqua looked visibly surprised at the question. She hadn't thought that the Queen was even aware of her pregnancy. It wasn't as though Acqua spent any time among the nobility, like Amaro she couldn't tolerate the amount of stupidity contained in one room at Court and prefered to avoid the King and Queen as much as possible. Though, she might have heard it from Flash, Acqua realised.
"Not until the end of winter," she told Luminous. "And please tell Her Majesty I said thank you for her well wishes, and congratulations on the birth of the new Prince." She gave Lumi a smile and added, "And please, Princess, Acqua is fine. 'Lady Sanderson' makes me think one of those empty-headed girls at Court have invaded the house." Bas snickered. "Now, does anyone want a drink?" Acqua asked.
"Coffee?" Bas asked hopefully. Acqua snorted and looked at her daughter.
"As amused as Amaro would be by the idea of you single-handedly demolishing this house, I am not giving you coffee when you can't burn it off outdoors," she replied. "Tea or warm milk."
"Warm milk please," Pas answered for himself and his sister. "Lumi, do you want anything? And let's go back to the kittens."

"We can manage that," Acqua told Lumi as the group headed back downstairs. On the way to the kitchen, Mat stopped them.
"I've got to head out to work, Kit," he told Acqua, kissing her cheek. "I'll see you tonight. Twins, you and your siblings be good for your mother."
"We will," Bas and Pas promised.
"Be careful out there, Mat," Acqua murmured, returning her husband's kiss. "I'll be most annoyed if I have to come looking for you." Mat chuckled and nodded as he left. With a little sigh, Acqua led the group of children into the kitchen.
Robin and Letha were still there, playing with their puppy by rolling a ball across the kitchen floor for the dog. "Want to play with us?" Letha asked Lumi as Acqua set to work making tea and heating some milk.

The tea wouldn't be ready yet and though she was fond of the kittens there wasn't much to DO with them just yet so she nodded and sat down at a point somewhere in the middle and farther off so the three of them made a triangle. "Puppy puppy," she crooned to the animal.

"His name is Wolfy," Letha corrected Lumi at once.
Standing where the little twins couldn't see her but Lumi could, Bas rolled her eyes at the name.
A week later the kittens had their eyes open and were a good deal more fun to play with, though they were still very small. Two of them in particular had taken to following Lumi around whenever the Princess visited - the little grey kitten who'd spoken up when Lumi first saw the kitten and a little brown and white tabby kitten from Pixie's litter.
"Those two are getting attached to you," Acqua remarked, seeing the pair of kittens once again trailing after Lumi. "Wonder if one of them will choose-" She was cut off by the two kittens.
~My human!~ the grey one piped up.
~Mine!~ her cousin replied with a hiss. ~Mine! Mine! Mine!~
