Infiltration|Grandisle, Firegem Isles

[Devon]

Stefan took the box, but didn't leave Teneth alone just yet. "Um sir, I can't have you doing this for free. Come with me real quick and I'll repay you for your help. I just need to go and see my brother quickly he has part of my allowance after all."

[Kender Bard]

Teneth was about to protest, point out that he was already paid through his supposed wages. But... The extra money, if it was worthwhile, would be nice. He worried his bottom lip and nodded. Perhaps that wasn't unusual in this household and it would seem strange to refuse. He doubted it though; he figured the boy just had no idea how to run a household staff. Or... who knew.

Grandisle was a strange place after all.

[Devon]

Stefan led Teneth to the room his older brother was currently using. Stepping inside, they stood in front of a dark haired man who was currently reading a book. Pausing, the man looked up at the two. He looked to Teneth only for a second before glancing to Stefan, smiling warmly. "Stefan, do you need anything?" the man asked.

"Gilbert, I just came by to bring you a gift I'd bought for you in Second Hope," Stefan said as he handed the gift to his brother. Gilbert opened the gift and looked in the box to find a small handcrafted charm. Admiring the gift for a moment, he tucked it in his book on the page he had just stopped on. "Thank you Stefan, it's a nice gift."

Stefan smiled then glanced to Teneth. "Oh he helped me wrap it," he said as he finished in his pocket. Reaching out he handed Teneth three shards as thanks. "Sorry Gilbert, but I need to go and finish my studies for today, I'll come by later when you're free." Without another word Stefan left Teneth in front of Gilbert.

With Stefan gone the room grew quiet and Gilbert's smile faded. Standing up the tall noble moved past Teneth and shut the door, leaving the two of them alone. Taking his seat again he said, "So did you find them?"

[Kender Bard]

Teneth's heart clutched when he'd heard Gilbert's voice.

"Y-you," he stammered.

Had he been set up? Was this all some ruse? Teneth started to back away, heart pounding. "What the hell is this?"

[Devon]

"Have a seat and I'll explain everything to you," Gilbert said to Teneth. Gilbert didn't seem bothered by Teneth's reaction at all. "Yes I'm the man who hired you, my friend that did the talking for me also works here, but he is....preoccupied."

[Kender Bard]

"Did you set me up?" Teneth whispered. He wondered what his odds were of getting out of the house, and off the island, safely if this were the case.

They were not good odds.

[Devon]

Gilbert shook his head. "No I didn't set you up," he answered. "But I did use you, I needed those papers and I can't have my father know that I was the one who took them." Gilbert held his hand out for the parchments. "I'll make sure you get out of Grandisle safely and of course you will be paid what we discussed. I may have other work for you, if you are interested."

[Kender Bard]

Teneth nodded slowly, praying to Taed that he was dealing with a man who kept to his word. "Maybe we could arrange to speak together later about such matters."

Would there be a later? He wasn't sure how far the money he'd just made (if he lived to collect) would last in Second Hope...

[Devon]

"Yes we can speak about later," Gilbert replied. "Please tell me you don't stay on Fireteeth, traveling to and from there is hard for me. I was only able to get there because my father and eldest brother were away."

[Kender Bard]

"I do," Teneth said, not wanting to lead this man to Second Hope. "But I can come here if you can assure me that I will be safe. Or we could even meet on the open water."

[Devon]

"You may need a new guise to be here," Gilbert said. "But I think you coming here would be easier on me. The places I can travel without rousing suspicion are limited. My younger brother you met earlier, though I'd hate to use him as a pawn, I can only really travel to visit him while he is in school." Gilbert sighed and leaned back, running his hand in his hair. His eyes looked tired.

"I can't fill you in on too much information just yet," Gilbert said as he reached for a pouch he had tucked underneath him. "In here is your payment and a means for you to get back to wherever you need to go. There will be a small boat waiting at the docks."

[Kender Bard]

"It was a pleasure working for you, lord," Teneth murmured, reaching for the money. "I'm not sure what kind of ambitions you seek in the world, but should I have need for employment again, I do hope we bump into one another once more."

[Devon]

Gilbert nodded. Standing up he reached out to shake Teneth's hand. "Thank you for your hard work. I hope the same, I may need you for other work later and I'd rather have someone I've worked with before. Good luck to you."
