Digging For Monsters (Gaia Caves)

As they traveled the tunnels into the heart of under-mountain Humontis (busy this time of year for those who were not farmers and wished to escape the heat of topside summer), Timble couldn't help but shiver noticeably. Demon glanced at him oddly; it wasn't that much cooler down beneath the ground.

But before he could ask what was wrong, Timble gave him such a fierce and angry look that Demon decided not to question it and ignored the younger man's obvious discomfort. "Any idea who we go to talk to?"

"The head Minor, whatever his title is." She said.
She waiting for the first working they passed and asked him what direction to the Mining foreman.

"Foreman," Demon commented absently.

As an obvious miner came into sight, Demon stepped into his path. "Pardon, but could you show us to your foreman?"

The miner blinked and gave a small nod, turning back the way he came. Demon and Timble followed along as the miner led them into a small building, seeming carved from the rock and stone itself. "Foreman Ged is in there."

Larissa had also followed along. Once they were at the office, she thanked their escort, and entered the office.
"Hi there, Foremen Ged I assume? My partners and I are here to try and take care of your monster problem." She said politely.

The man inside, a surprisingly dark skinned and portly individual, looked up and gave the trio a grim smile. "Well you wouldn't be the first but I do hope you'll be the last if you catch my drift," he said. "I can't give you much information. Ever since we found the bugger we've just moved our tunneling - a pity since there's a rich vein there. But trying to use our earth powers to just draw the goods to the entrance only makes the beast angry. Apparently it can sense Elemental use."

Larissa thought a moment, crossing her arms across her chest. "Any idea what sort of abilities if any? Size? SHape? Anything else? If not, point the way, and we'll take care of the rest." She said glancing to Demon to see if he had anything else to add.

"No, I'm afraid not," the foreman stated and stepped out of his office to walk along a bit. Once he'd gone half a mile, he pointed to a wide opening in the rockface. "Down that way. You can go a little while before he'll sense you but beyond that..." He shrugged.

Larissa nodded. "Thanks. We'll see what we can do to help you." She said as politely.
She looked back at Demon and Timble. "all right boys, do we have a plan?" She asked.

Demon stroked his chin as he considered what lay before them. "We've got a giant monster. Nobody's seen more than a bit of it and lived to tell the tale. It can apparently tell when people are nearby. It can sense the use of Elemental powers. Sounds like there's no way to really surprise this thing."

"Well it can sense our powers, but it still wont' come out of the hole, so what's to stop us from standing far back and just blow it out of the whole?" She asked. She looked at Timble. "You're the the one wanting experience, what do you think?" She said crossing her arms over her chest and shifting her weight from one foot to another.

[Kender Bard]

"Worth a try but I'm only a wind-ice," Timble said. "And Demon's just a wind. Powerful when used right but lacking in raw destruction."

"We'll have to see if your Storm signs are enough," Demon said. "Though the kid can try to whip up a blizzard to help if he can."

Larissa thought a moment. "Well I guess that's as a good a start as any. And then we'll move in as a last resort." She said. "That sound good to everyone?" She asked, looking between the two men.

[Kender Bard]

"Aye," they both intoned and headed towards the tunnel that was reportedly the home of the monster. Standing a healthy distance away from it, Timble pressed his lips together, his 'chant' more of a whispery sound out of the corner of his mouth than anything, and focused his power.

Demon just loosed his great warhammer from its sling on his back and held it ready.

Larissa took a second to make sure her Sai were loose enough in her boots, and pressed her fingers together and started her own softly whispered chant. She took a good long moment to focus and prepare and then fired off a strong bolt in the dark tunnel that was to be monsters home.

For a moment, nothing happened. Then there came a low, rumbling sound - like a growl, but almost too low to be said it came from anything but the earth. Timble loosed his own attack then, a sudden shrieking gale of wind made bitterly and biting cold with flecks of ice whirling around inside it.

The rumbling grew louder, strong enough to send a faint tremor through the stone and the tip of what seemed to be a shiny tentacle about six feet wide shot out of the tunnel and flailed blindly at the three in a sudden slap.
