"Well, this brings back memories," Amaro remarks to Mat as the two men walk towards Brightmore Manor with their children, minus Robin and Letha who are currently sleeping in the guild nursey.
"Any of them good?" Mat comments with a laugh.
"No, not really," Amaro replies.
"Glad it's just you going in," Mat chuckles. "Sure you can manage all of them?" he adds, glancing at Spice, Crentha and his three oldest.
Amaro grimaces slightly. He'd intended to say no when the invitation came, but Aria had heard about it from her cousins and insisted on being allowed to go. And Amaro had yet to be able to refuse his daughter anything.
Of course, that had brought it's own problems. Such as getting all six of the kids fitted, quickly, for clothing suitable for a royal ball. Amaro was just glad he'd thought to change his house colours. The dark green outfits trimmed with bronze cloth looked far better on all of them then the old red and gold would have. And the colours were a reminder to everyone that, common-born or not, Spice and Crentha were considered part of Amaro's House.
"I'll manage," Amaro told Mat. "Go look after the babies." Mat smiles, nods and hurries off.
"Come on, Uncle Amaro," Bas said, tugging at Amaro's shirt a little. "Let's go."
---
Inside the Manor, Shadow glances out of the window and notices guests are starting to arrive. He quickly sends a guard to pass on the word that invitations were to be checked, then the guests shown to the ball room and their parents given the option of staying with them or being shown to one of the large sitting rooms for more adult socalisation.
Once that's taken care of, Shadow goes to Lya's dressing room, where his wife and daughter are getting ready, and knocks on the door. "Lya, Lumi? Are my beautiful ladies ready yet? The guests are arriving."
