Ankles. Ankles everywhere. Ankles in leather, cotton, suede, velvet and fur. Feet in sandals, boots, slippers, common loafers, or even bare, depending on how much Beast was in the blood.
A forest of legs, ever moving, ever shifting, ever hurrying along.
And not ONE glimpse of the pair of boots she was looking for.
I need to get Locke an ankle bracelet, Erika decided as she scrambled through the civilians of Humontis. One that says "Property Of Erika." Then I can stick it on him in case this ever happens again.
She really should not have investigated that strange sound in the other shop, but she had thought it would only take a moment, and then she found a little ball to chase when it fell out of a bag, and later she had stopped to take a litter-box break in some potted flowers and had gotten chased by the merchant, and after that she had been chased by another cat who was adamant about not sharing a mouse, and then she had gotten totally distracted by a random insect, and now, she was lost.
However, Erika was determined not to start bawling like, well, a little lost kitten. She had a brain and she was going to use it. The problem was, she couldn't use it to contact Locke; she was probably out of range by now, and his own telepathy was almost useless in the short range.
So, the cat now had to improvise, and she had an idea of what to do, courtesy of the pretty red leather collar and the crystal charm with a ladybug on the front, which Locke had bought for her in Ilyamen. Erika ran for a stone bench, vaulted onto the seat and climbed onto its back. ~Hello? Hellloooooooo!~ she called as loudly as possible. ~I've lost my person! Heeeeeeelllllloooooooooo!~
