After Lya left, Shadow's work ethic seemed to make a complete 360. He threw himself into the paperwork and the daily running of the Kingdom.
It was a shame his mood had gone from depressed to angry and depressed. Had Flash been home, he might have been able to break Shadow's bad mood, but as it is, Shadow's simply ignoring Garth and working himself into exhustion. The only living being to get so much as a smile from him is little Luminous, who he keeps with him nearly constantly.
In responce to the King's mood, the mansion seems to fall into a depressed, nervous gloom. Even the usual flood of partitioners trickles to a stop until only the most desperate are prepared to face Shadow in person.
It is about this time that Sombra arrives on the doorstep, with her own little girl in tow. Uncertain of whatelse to do, one of the serving girls leads the woman to Shadow.
"What do you want?" Shadow snaps when he sees who the visitor is. Sombra raises a perfectly plucked and shaped eyebrow.
"Why, Shadow, is that any way to greet your dear cousin?" she asks, her tone poisonously sweet.
"You weren't my dear cousin before you ran off with Mathew," Shadow snaps. Sombra sighes.
"Yes, well, that's over with now," she simpers. "Mathew has abandoned me and as such I throw myself upon your mercy." Shadow starts to speak, but Sombra cuts him off quickly, "Before you deny me, Lord cousin, answer this. What has she ever done to deserve your wrath?"
Shadow stares down at the little girl Sombra pushes in front of her and his expression softens. "For your daughter's sake, you may stay," he says finally. Sombra smiles, but the expression never reaches her eyes.
"Thank you... My lord."
