It must be around here somewhere, thought Vassal, as he trudged along a seldom-used path running along the outer edge of Sensatia. He glanced at the towering walls to his left. He had read about the defenses of Sensatia in books; there was a fine line between caution and paranoia. Whoever designed those walls has pole-vaulted over that line and built a three-foot thick wall along it. He turned his attention to the landscape in front of him, and spotted what he was looking for; a huge, elaborately decorated bronze bell. Attatching a pair of cork earplugs, Vassal made his way towards the bell, and the dangling rope...
CLANG.
Even through the earplugs, the noise was deafening. Disoriented, he staggered backwards, almost falling off the podium the bell was situated on. Still slightly dizzy from the sound, Vassal removed the earplugs.

One of the Mind sentries made his appearance, teleporting within a foot of Vassal. Seeing the man prone, he couldn't help but chuckle faintly. "Sorry about that. You rang?"

Still recovering from the noise of the bell, Vassal straightened out. "Uugh... No problem. Name's Vassal March, I'm a scholar from Maelstrom, I've come here to study the intricacies of your element. My mother was a mind type, Jannisar Thornary. You might've known her, I've read about how tightly-knit you mind-types are."

"Personally the name doesn't ring a bell but she might not used to have belonged to my old sub-community," the Mind says. "Lately, with the treaty with Fira, it's gotten a little harder to keep track of us all. Heh. Hmm, just one moment though." He shut his eyes and tilted his head slightly, communing with the advisers and Thelon on the matter. Opening his eyes, he asked, "How do you plan to study us? Just watching?"

Vassal shook his head. "No, you can only learn so much from observing. I was hoping to find a teacher, if at all possible." Vassal placed his hands in his pockets when curiosity got the better of him. "Tell me, how does your electric fence work?".

[Kender Bard]

The Mind smiled at that, tapping his nose. "Well I suppose it wouldn't help to tell you the very basics. Not the intricate parts, mind, that would be a matter of national security. But we do have some Storms that work for us, and some Mind-Storms. Let us say that it is a concerted effort between these individuals. Now if you need a teacher, you'll have to find one on your own. I think my Master is just concerned that you might be a psychotic individual who thinks the path to unlocking the Minds is to cut them open and see for yourself."

He rolled his eyes. "Please, don't be offended. Master Thelon has been receiving some rather disturbing letters. It's made him a bit paranoid, on top of some past experiences prior to that. Once we are all sure you mean no harm, then I am certain you will be received quite warmly. As it is, I think it's safe enough to let you in." He held out his hand to Vassal. "Just take my hand and I'll bring you in the city. Also, about that teacher... I'm not sure who to recommend, but our most noted, and strongest individuals are the two advisors, Xavier and Darrtan, and our mental doctor, Mikasi. That might be somewhere to start."
