Amaro whistles softly as he works on preparing his dinner then stops as he realises what he's doing. "Damn it Talon," he grumbles. "You're an annoying influence." Still, the house is a little too quiet when it this empty.

He'd gotten home to find a note from Acqua saying she'd gone out with Vortai, a thought that makes Amaro cringe and pray to Etaf they didn't get into to much trouble. And for once Talon hadn't stopped by to babble about the day.

As Amaro finishes cooking his dinner, he plans his evening. After dinner, he'd take advantage of Acqua's abasence and have a shot of brandy, then he'd sit by the fire and read for awhile before bed. Statisfied with the plan, Amaro carries his meal to the table.

"Just a nice, quiet evening," he murmurs.

There came but the softest of tappings at the door; someone was knocking, but hesitantly. Either they were afraid, shy, or unsure of their visit.

After a moment it came a little louder, some confidence gained.

Amaro dismissed the first knock as his imagination or something being blown around outside. After all, he and Acqua have kept pretty much to theirselves since moving into the city, so what reason would anyone have to be visiting? At the second knock though, Amaro realises someone is actually there and heads out to the hallway to open the door. "Hello?"

A woman stands, looking very tired. Her clothes were threadbare, and the cloak was so patched that barely any of the original material remained.

"M-may I have a little food?" she whispered keeping her eyes downcast. "Kind sir?"

Amaro looks the woman over then steps away from the door. "Come in, you can eat and warm up," he says. He'd only made enough fish and rice for one person, but he wasn't starving. He could wait for the time it would take to make a couple of sandwhiches at least. "There's food on the table, you can have that."

The woman smiled faintly and went over to where the meal was, sitting down and nibbling at it with surprising good table manners. "Thank you," she called out. "What is your name, kind man?"

"It's Amaro," Amaro replies, heading over to the counter to start putting together a sandwhich. "And you're welcome."

While he fixed his sandwich, the woman was suddenly at his side. She grasped his left hand and held it, leaning over to whisper in his ear, "Bless you for your kindness." Letting go abruptly, she ran off, back outside.

"What the hell?" Amaro heads out after to woman, but to his shock there's no sign of her. "This city gets stranger then Flux some days," Amaro mutters, turning to go back inside when his hand catches his eye. There, on the palm of his hand, is a brand new Storm sign. For a moment, Amaro just stares at it, then shakily heads inside. Perhaps a double shot of brandy is in order.
