Tanith Aquilinus would never characterize himself as vain, although most who knew him would disagree (but not within earshot). The nobleman would simply say that he had the pride of his family resting on his shoulders, and he could not permit anything to tarnish it.
His face, and his property, looked as immaculate as ever, he reflected as he examined himself in the mirror. He had paid good money for the carpenters, gardeners, and healers to undo the damage caused by the vandal in his courtyard, and it showed.
But the family pride would not be satisfied with simply repairing the damage. Tanith would have to make the ruffian pay, in both coin and humiliation, twice the harm he had caused, not only to punish him, but to deter any others from doing the same in the future.
Tanith may have paid well to heal his injury and repair his estate, but he had been extravagently generous when it came to capturing the perpetrator. The second half of Ansrax's payment remained in the study, awaiting the bounty hunter's arrival with his quarry. Tanith remained with it, alternately preening in front of the mirror and pacing impatiently. With so much money at stake, one would think the man would work a little faster!
For a minute, he actually considered hiring someone else to go out and check on the bounty hunter's progress, but before he could decide to do so, a servant appeared with word that Ansrax had arrived at the gate, a shackled Fire in tow.
"Well, what are you waiting for? Let them in!" His impatient glare dropped once the servant slipped out of sight, and he began to practice his best look of righteous indignation, checking in the mirror to make sure he had it just right.
