A messenger holding a sealed, festively colored envelope approaches the gates to Shadow's mansion. She stands a respectful distance away, but still close enough to be heard by the guards. "Excuse me! I have an invitation for Sir Flash I'd like to deliver, and to know the response for. May either I come in or he come out so I can give it to him myself?"

[Kender Bard]

"I'll get Lord Calder," the guard offers, heading inside to fetch the man.

Flash isn't in his study for once. In fact he isn't inside at all. A servant informs the guard that Salaica had hauled Flash out into the gardens for some fresh air and a break from work. Although, considering the content smile on Flash's face when he's found by the guard, it's clear Flash didn't mind the interruption. He looks less pleased when he spots the guard.

"I fear duty calls, my dear," Flash murmurs to Salaica.

[Kender Bard]

"As always," Salacia sighed, hanging on to Flash's arm. "Do you want me to come with you or shall I return to the weavers?"

"Stay with me," Flash replies. "It may be only a small matter." With a slight sigh, Flash leads Salacia over to the guard. "Is there a problem?" he asks.

[Kender Bard]

"No sir," the guard replied with a smile. "But someone does wish to speak with you at the gates. A lady caller." He grinned wider but Salacia didn't rise to the bait, which took some of the wind out of his sails. Saluting a bit, he walked off.

[Northen Light36]

"A lady caller," Flash chuckles lightly and shakes his head. "You'd think they'd have realised that there's no point to comments like that. Not when I'm already with the most beautiful woman in the world." Flash gives Salacia his signiture heart melting grin as he leads the way to the gate. Just because his love hadn't risen to the bait didn't mean it wasn't a good idea to soothe her a little.

I am so whipped, aren't I?, Flash thought, resigned to the fact.

"Lord Flash?" The messenger comes a little closer to the gate. "I have an invitation for you and any guests you want to bring. The details are inside the letter, but I'll answer anything you would like."

She holds out the envelope as carefully and formally as possible, hoping she looked official enough that she'd not seem like some petitioner off the streets.

"An invitation for me?" Flash replies, more then a touch surprised. It's very rare that an invitation comes to the palace for him. "Well, thank you for taking the time to deliver it." He takes the invitation and begins to read through it.

"You're welcome, sir," the messenger replies politely.

The invitation is for him to play the role of guest of honor at an upcoming festival in Maelstrom sponsored by the Merchant's Guild, and held as a celebration of the unique goods and features of the Fall season. As well as the privileges, such as being able to get a varying discount and to have a spot set aside for him at all of the tents, there is one small responsibility involved in being the guest of honor. The festival would officially start and open to the public when the one invited tapped the first keg, an opening ceremony hopefully unusual enough to draw a good crowd.

Flash reads the invitation and chuckles. "I'd be honoured to attend," he tells the messenger, passing the invitation to Salacia. "Please pass that along with my thanks."

[Kender Bard]

"Sounds like fun," Salacia agreed, folding the invitation and slipping it into Flash's pocket.

[aivea]

"Thank you, sir. If you'll excuse me, I'll go do just that. Have a good time!"

The messenger departs fairly quickly to make sure everything else is in order.
