Luminous walked around, bored. She was dragging one of her dolls with her. She was wondering where her father and Vortai were; with her mother gone, Luminous found herself suddenly devoid of a near constant companion, and she was growing bored and restless. Harassing the maids gave her some amusement, however. She particularly enjoyed grabbing the hem of their skirts and following them around, which seemed to fluster them. She spotted one maid and grinned, walking over to torment another household staff member.

Vortai saw the princess chasing this new staff member about and made a bee line to cut her off. He stood with his hands at his hips and shook his head, mocking disappointment in as silly a way as he could so she knew he wasn't serious. Getting down onto one knee he looked little Lumi in the eyes.

"Well, if it isn't the royal vagabond? Just what do you think you have been doing all morning?"

He smiled a soft smile, his uniform was still that for lurking in the shadows but he hardly had to act like that when the princess could see him. To tell the truth he had no real idea what he would do with the girl now that he had her attention... he sort of just reacted out of being happy to see her wandering about.

Luminous cracked a wide smile. "Vor!" she cooed happily, trying to hug her companion. "Run!" She gestured toward the maid, who frowned over her shoulder. Looking back in Vortai's eyes, she giggled and asked, "Play?"

Vortai let the girl hug him and happily gave her a soft one in return. The fact that she used his name... or at least part of it, was enough to brighten the day. Of course it means she was causing problems for others, but they will thank him if he takes her off their hands for a while.

"Well, it seems someone is learning who they are quickly enough. all right Lumi, what would you like to play?"

He picked her up gently, but with a little more speed then usual in order to give her a sort of ticklish head rush. He knew not to be rough with her, but that doesn't mean he can't show her the fun that kids with less then all the money in the world have. Speed was fun when he was a kid, running fast, moving fast, he remembered vaguely some of the things his adoptive father did for him before he left home.

Luminous gave a breathless giggle and wrapped her arms around his neck as she looked around, enjoying the new higher vantage point to her world. "Uhh..." She thought about what there was to play. "Ball." It was the only word she knew for 'game' at the moment.

Vortai looked about, he had kind of hoped there was something near here that she could point to and they could just use that. He realized though that she had been wandering about the common area and her toys aren't here. When she said ball he wasn't exactly sure what she meant, but he wandered in the direction of her play room in order to find one.

"Lets see here, now remember to hold on tight Lumi, you never know when I might do something strange like..."

At that point and at several points afterwords he did a little pirouette as he was walking down the hallways, making absolutely sure he had good grip on her before beginning the motion. Eventually he got to his destination and put the princess down lightly. He fished around for a ball and bounced to toward her lightly, he didn't want to start this out with her crying because he bounced it too high and it smacked her in the face.

Luminous grinned happily and picked up the ball; any play was better than none. She tossed it backed to him in an awkward underhand throw that was little better than roll. She enjoyed the activity for a few minutes before a new thought struck her. "Where dada?"

Vortai smiled as he flipped the returned ball up into the air and caught it. He tried twirling it on his finger for her, and to show off a little, but his balance with the sphere wasn't that great. It bounced away from him as he looked at it disappointed.

"Well, your dad has went to go see a friend of his if I heard correctly. Seems they don't get to see one another very often. So that leaves you on the top huh Lumi?"

He looked around in her pile of things to see if there was anything else she might like. He was no good at knowing what she would really want, it would be easier if she could talk just a little better. Thinking about what he always liked to do when he was small he turned back to the girl.

"Would you like to go outside?"

"Yeah," she sighed, without feeling. "Miss mama. Miss dada." Toddling after Vortai she reached for his hand.

Vortai felt sorry for Lumi, he knew what it was like to grow up without a mother an father. Being an important little girl like she was wouldn't make it any easier for them to be gone for long stretches of time. He wondered what it was that made it so Shadow couldn't wait for Lya to come back before heading to Naurorod, it just seemed so irresponsible to leave when he did.

"I'm really sorry Lumi, your parents are very important people, and the world keeps calling for them. Same as you, and soon the world will be calling for you as well. I know how you feel though, I didn't have parents much at all when I was growing up..."

He kind of wanted to take her to the city, but he knew he wasn't quite good enough to ensure her protection while he is out there. She could get sweets at the palace yes, but that didn't beat sitting at a parlor and having them brought to you. He looked down to the girl with a smile, then searched about him, hoping internally she would point out something she wanted to do.
