Alethia cradled her new daughter in her arms, smiling at Spice's wide, somber eyes. She leaned down carefully so he could look more fully upon Crentha. "What do you think, Spice?"
Spice very softly poked Crentha's cheek with his finger. "So small," he whispered. "Was I small, Mommy?"
"Yes dear," Alethia laughed quietly. Crentha made a whimpery noise and turned her face towards Spice's finger. Spice giggled and put his face up right next to hers.
"I'm Spice," he said quietly. "Hi." Crentha cooed. "You're Cr-cr.."
"Crentha," Alethia supplied.
"Crentha," Spice went on, not missing a beat. "Can you say that?"
Alethia rearranged Crentha's blanket. "She's not going to be able to talk for a while. She'll be your silent little sister - for a while."
"Except when she cries," Spice giggled, wriggling a finger in the infant's palm. "When is Daddy going to come say hi to the baby?"
Alethia sighed and glanced out a window. Talon would be sad that he missed Crentha's birth. "When he can," she said simply. "And then the four of us will have a family day."
"Family day?" Spice cocked his head. As Crentha gave a great yawn, Alethia rose to put her in the makeshift crib - some of Talon's coworkers would bring Spice's old crib up from her home when they could. She returned to her chair and pulled her son closer. Spice lay his head on her lap and closed his eyes contently as she stroked his blonde hair.
"You, Crentha, Daddy, and I will start a fire and eat yummy homemade cookies," Alethia promised her son. "We'll tell you all sorts of stories about when we were younger, and Daddy will show you some of his keepsakes."
"Someday, when I grow up, I'm gonna go everywhere in the world," Spice murmured, starting to nod off. He smiled faintly, mind already floating off on the wings of sleep to the distant lands of his dreams. His voice fell to a soft whisper, "And I'll bring you back keep..keepsakes... Mommy.. Promise.."
Alethia smiled down at the Forces' blessing in her lap.
