Reporting for Duty|Skyheort, Talen'sul

Aaron makes his way briskly though the city, searching out the guard's headquarters. It's been ages since he set foot in Talen'sul, so he's a bit turned around. Swearing softly, he stops and looks around for a guard, mentally berating himself for not asking directions from someone before he left the "guildhall."

Just as well, he thinks. The new guy in town leaving the shop and running off to the city guards? Yeah, that'd go over wonderfully.

A young, and probably new to the job, guard is on duty in the marketplace. His newness is made brutally apparent to a sharp pair of eyes, since a young girl just walked off with the guard's money bag and he noticed nothing.

Aaron smacks his forhead with his palm at the sight and approaches the guard. If this is indicative of the standards of Talen'sul guards, the kingdom is doomed.

"You, there! Which way to the guards' headquarters?"

The boy, since that's what he really is and fresh out of training, jumps and then replies, "Go north through the markets, sir, and you'll be in Guild Square. The Guard HQ is the building on the right that isn't multi-coloured."

[Darastrix]

Aaron gives the boy a nod of thanks. "A word of advice: try doing your job with both eyes open," he says dryly. "I don't give a damn if you get yourself robbed blind off-duty, but letting it happen on-duty makes all of us look bad."

The boy looks confused, then frantically pats where his money bag should be. "Hey! Someone took my money!" he yelps. A few children, all younger then the girl who'd picked the guard's pocket, snicker.

[Darastrix]

"And they're likely long gone with it, too. Just consider it the price for a lack of diligence, and don't be caught off guard again."

He certainly isn't going to rat out the girl that took it, and besides, it's a good lesson for the kid. He shakes his head as he starts off in the direction the boy told him and mutters "I hope they're not all this new."

The Guard guild is, as usual these days, organised chaos. As the snow melts, an attack from Maelstorm grows more likely, and so the guards are scrambling to work with the military to tighten Talen'sul's already formable defenses. The Captain of the Guard looks up as Aaron walks in. "Yes?"

[Darastrix]

"Aaron Ward, reporting for duty from Maelstrom, sir," the Fire says, saluting smartly.

The Captain eyes him over. "Maelstrom eh? Care to share how you got into the city? And while you're at it, what sign are you and give me a full report on what the situation is like in Maelstrom. What number of forces can we expect from them in a battle?"

[Darastrix]

"I'm a Fire, sir," Aaron replies, brushing his hair away from his left temple so the captain can see his sign. "The situation...isn't good. I'm sure by now you know that end of the Kingdom is locked down. Anyone known to support Lord Shadow is being hunted down to hang, if there are any left by now, and every able-bodied man has been pressed into service, with the exception of nobility. I'd say their force is about a thousand strong."
