Faolan halted, turning to his guide with a kind smile, "We should rest now, think about setting up camp. The sun has already begun to die."

The wolf, of course, spoke true, the golden disc has indeed begun his decent, turning a glorious red as it fell, bathing everything a warm, amber light. The silver guard hairs of Faolan's thick pelt positively glowed, making him look, if only for a few hours, like living gold.

Despite this wonderful setting, the Clan Leader felt unease. They have crossed into Maelstrom a while ago now and the deeper they went, the more Faolan began anticipating an attack from these aggressive people he's heard of.

A man approached Faolan, cautiously and with a look of curiosity. He came, not from Maelstrom but behind - as if from somewhere south of the mountains and hills. "Uhh, sir... lord.. er, Leader Faolan I presume?"

[Toyoll]

Still standing on all-fours, Faolan craned his neck to see who it was who addressed him. With a slight frown he turned and hauled himself up, standing like a man again.

In all honesty, he was a little embarassed at not having noticed this traveller walk up behind him. He should have been more attentive. Keeping his guard up and his face unreadable, he acknowledged the man, "Aye, I'm Faolan. What do you want?"

[Kender Bard]

The man gulps when Faolan rises, and takes a step back. "M-message for you." The man gulps and holds out the parchment scroll cautiously, afraid the great wolf Leader would bite off his hand.

[Toyoll]

The great wolf frowned, messages were a rarity for him. At least in the form of parchment. Urgent matters were usually brought to his attention by birds or animals and it usually involved his own people. Only once has another non-Beast brought him a message, it was a call to arms.

So, understandebly, the Clan Leader was anxious to know the contents of this letter, for better or worse.

Faolan huffed a small, canine grunt and plucked the scroll with ivory claws. He untied the small ribbon with remarkable dexterity for having almost paw-like hands and tossed it aside. The wolf then unrolled the message...

[Kender Bard]

Faolan,

I regret to inform you that your time in ruling over Beastlands is coming to a close. While I will allow you to remain in your seat of power as a figurehead, I must ask you to succeed rulership of Beastlands to me. Since it would be imprudent of me to reveal my nature at this time, I will have spies posted outside of your current location. I will give you a week to get your affairs into order for this shift in power, and then you must place two white flags outside of your residence. My spies will confirm these sightings. If you do as asked, then I will send a messenger to pick up a five thousand coin donation of charity, after which time I will be sending an liege lord to act in my stead.

If you do not comply with these instructions, a series of violent and bloody confrontations will arise, starting with random peasants and working up to the assassination of your loved ones, and finally - if necessary - you.

Faolan had to read this letter over again, he could hardly believe this! A terrifying growl rose from the depths of his very soul, growing like a storm on the horizon. His lips curled into a vicious snarl, fangs as white as the moon and gums as pink as the morning sky.

His hands began to shake as he thought of his clanmates bloody and blasted at his feet. How dare he! How dare he lay claim to the title Faolan has rightfully earned! How dare he threaten the mighty Beast clans!

Faolan's young blood began rushing through his body, he snapped his eyes up to messenger. He was shocked to find himself wanting to smash in the young man's skull. Faolan suppressed this need with great difficulty.

Instead, the great wolf grabbed a large fistful of his clothes and hauled him up off the ground with incredible ease. "Who sent this?" his voice was calm, steady, deathly cold.

[Kender Bard]

The messenger turned pale as a corpse, and had trouble speaking. "I-I-I-I-" he gulped "D-don'tknow! Idon'tknow oh please don't kill meee!!"

Faolan tossed the man aside with a savage bark.

Only then did he register what he just said. This worried Faolan a little, he can't lose his head at a time like this...

Swallowing the beast that roared in his belly, the wolf softened his expression, his eyes were still sparking with vehemence, but no longer directed at the messenger.

Faolan took a step towards him and held out a large paw, "I am sorry. This letter brings disturbing news..."

[Kender Bard]

"I could tell," the man squeaked weakly, recoiling from the outstretched paw and scrambling up under his own power. He wasn't sure if he should run or not; some one once told him not to run from a wolf because they would always catch you. "M-may I leave?"

[Toyoll]

Faolan made another soft gruff, his brow furrowed as he tried to think up a course of action.

Remembering the messenger, Faolan waved a paw, "Yes, yes, you may go...But tell no one of where you found me." His gaze turned back to the road, "..Though he probably knows already..." the wolf grumbled to himself.

With that, the Beast Leader fell upon his forepaws and tore down the dusty trail with powerful limbs. His mind raced faster than the road under his feet, I must find a bird! I must send word to Sloan...Tarja....The Captain!... Faolan blinked, an idea already sprouting like tender grass shoots. Maybe they'll.....But I can't go myself.....

Up ahead, Faolan's trained eyes could spot a pheasant in the grass. The wolf swiveled his ears, straining to hear any of those spies the mysterious sender spoke of. Not a sound was heard but the wind in his ears.

Not wanting to alert anyone, Faolan relented under the guise of fatigue. Plodding over to the bird, he quietly called out to it, but told it to remained still. The wolf whispered his instructions, --Find a Beast. A Beast outside of the homeland...--

[whisper=admin, Nyala]((Dis iz whispured: Kender, I have an idea (something you probably already guessed). I was wondering If I could borrow the Knights? (yes I know my own character is with them, but she's never been a part of a big plot) I'll send the pheasant to them, Nyala could translate?))[/whisper]

The pheasant made a pleasant little warble in agreement, flying off.
