The Beast of War|Beastlands

Faolan wrinkled his nose, trying to see what was happening, but his wolfen eyes weren't much use for distances. He looked about franticly and found a hawk affinity, a young warrior, this was probably his first true battle, "You there, tell me what's happening! How many have they brought down?", he barked.

The boy looked over him, wide eye with mingling fear and awe and his voice quavered just a little as he spoke. "By my count, seven killed and five injured. But they're forming ranks now and picking off the animals, slaughter-style."

Faolan's eyes went wide, "Lam! Call them back now! Prepare for attack! Have the birds follow!" He trotted back to his place and turned to the warriors, "Warriors of Poldora! It falls upon your shoulders to defend the Beastlands! We will not let these monsters take our families and use them as pets. We are Beasts! Worg wished us to be free and we wont submit to them!" He bellowed.
The Clan Leader turned to face the clears and drew his breath. He threw his head back and a powerful howl burst from his jaws, it seemed to reach every corner of the plains, even up onto the sides of the mountain, serenading it with it's strength.

The animals gratefully fell back as the Beast types echoed their Leader's call with howls and calls of their own - this was suddenly echoed by the feral snarling and yapping of other Beast types to their flanks. Out of seemingly nowhere, Tarja rushed from her hiding place, followed by her clansmen who seemed to rush all too eagerly into the waiting Clear army. Arrows flew and struck many of them, but to the horror of the Clears, the Beasts of Beleg just shrugged off their injuries and clashed with the front line in a vicious charge. Shaking off their surprise, Poldora's men followed up in a secondary charge as the fighting broke out.

In the middle of the clash several stelagmites shot from the earth, each clearly aimed towards a clear and meant so it would not strike a beast in collateral damage.

"They seem lost, let us point them in the direction home men, we are to supplement the beasts, do not strike unless you are sure you have a clear shot!" The minister yelled to his people.

They were exhausted from the forced march to get here and without much experiance the attacks weren't as rapid as would be liked. To supplement this, five soil types would attack and retract, then five more would take their place for purposes of rest. There were also five to the side that had been determined to work best in unison, their job was to open a pit of quicksand with the purpose of slowing down the cavalry.

The plants affinities brought along were preparing defences for the beast types, their first act is raising trees so it is difficult for clear archers to get a shot.

The clash of the both forces was immense, Faolan had to keep his wits about him. His war instincts were long dormant, but they came in clear and sharp in his mind. Parry. Duck. Blow. The rythym slowly churned in his mind as he came into contact with the first Clear. Parry his blow. Doge his sword. Strike at the best moment.

The roar of beasts and shouts of men filled his ears, adreanaline filled his veins and dust, blood and sweat swamped his nostrils. He was wraped in the battle, not even feeling the first wounds ravage his flesh. The wolf's thick fur and though hide provided more protection than any man could wish for, but he was still flesh and blood and was still suseptable to injuries.

For what Faolan could see, it looked good for the Beast elementals. He could see the fierce lionness, Tarja, in her finest hour and Lam further off, fighting admirably. But the Clan Leader knew better than to get too hopeful and kept plowing on.

The Clears took heavy losses from the Earth types - clearly they had not anticipated either of the forces to be here in waiting. What was meant as an ambush on Humontis had turned on an ambush for themselves. They had only sent 50 men for a reason - it was meant as a sting attack, not a full scaled war attempt.
"Pull back!" one of the Generals roared. "Retreat! Grab whatever slaves you've snagged and run!" His men were more than happy to oblige, giving orders to any newly acquired slaves to stay and back their retreat while all the men turned tail and fled.

Faolan cried orders on his side as well, "Their retreating! Hunt down as many as you can! Don't let them take our brothers! Don't let a single beast soul leave it's home!" He bellowed.

His morale was upped mightily at the visible aid of the earths and at that point, he couldn't settle for anything short of a perfect victory.

The earth types had another way of breaking themselves of the bonds of servitude, only to be used by choice for those that didn't want to go. They closed their eyes and chewed on a special leaf, after having done so their eardrums would burst... making them permenantly deaf, unable to hear a clear order, especially the one telling them not to escape. Those that did not wish to succumb to this pain were informed that upon their rescue they would not be looked down upon.

The minister saw Faolan charging, and he allowed him and his men to do so without interruption. This was a victory for the beast types, he just happened to witness it. The remianing earths, having little to no battle experiance wept knowing not only did they achieve victory here, but their homes are safe for another day.

Some of the Beast types under Clear influence were unable to resist their orders as they took down their fellow clanmates viciously, even wounding a few - a couple others were slain on the claws of their brethen mostly because one was either a Beleg or the attack had miscalculated his strength. Others were dragged unwillingly back to their ownkind and the final remainder finally fled with the retreating army.

Hearing the sounds of battle pummel her ears, Kaerinn held back a shriek of fear as she ran as fast as she could. From Poof she caught flashes of the fight, and shivered.

Faolan handed a biting, kicking beast, under Clear influence, to an officer and told him to take him home. Faolan looked around, his heart rose at the sight of so many of his own being brought back toward his side of the border. He didn't worry for them, the filthy Clear seed will be uprooted as soon as the Clears are far enough. He simply had to hold them for long enough. The sheer joy of victory rose from his belly and he let lose a joyful howl, not quite as loud as his previous, but loud enough for every beast type to hear his winning cry. Some wolves even echoed his call.

The Clan Leader trotted among the warriors, helping them manage their momentarily insaine brothers. He was feeling happy...until he came accross the lifeless body of the young hawk affinity he met earlier... The Warrior in Faolan melted away, giving way to his truest self. He knelt down and tenderly lifted the boy up with powerful arms. The wolf stood and limped, for his left leg has been struck, to a patch of ground untouched by the battle. There he lied down the young warrior, feathers rubbing off of his tail in the process. His heart felt like it was clamped in the jaws of a mighty animal, but he tore away to return to his troops and find his generals.

Along the way, telling the warriors that were free to go and start the body search...

Tarja padded over to Faolan, brandishing a garish slice that extended from her collarbone to her side. She was in pain but didn't seem to show it with her usual stubborn Beleg pride, "Pack Leader, I'm afraid that Lam is missing. We're not sure if he was taken or injured."

Matis ran with Kaerinn, glad that they were far enough now that they couldn't make out any details of the battle - he wasn't sure if his stomach could handle it. He ran with all his energy but began feeling overly tired once they began to near the western border. "I'm not sure... how much longer.. I can keep this pace up," he panted, wincing at a stitch in his side.

Faolan only glanced side-ways at her. "...Thank you Tarja." he said calmly, "Would you mind finding him for me? I have much more work to do if he isn't able." He continued to walk, but paused. Without turning he said, "Tarja, you fought well. Your strike was true. My compliments..." he continued his seemingly pointless path in what looked like a daze. For those who knew him though, they knew that he wasn't dazed at all, simply beating down instincts and emotions that threatened to overtake him. The wolf bellowed orders, telling the soldiers to bind their bewitched bretheren, who were now calm and emotionless in the abscence of the Clears, and to set up guards until they could find suitable holding spaces.

The Clan Leader told the rest of the soldiers to bring every feral body, beast or animal, to a clear space to be identified and sorted into their various clans. He also asked the remaining bird affinities to assemble.
