Digging into the Past|Rivenway, Ronduin

[Kender Bard]

The next morning, Alethia woke with the dawn. Despite the early hour, she could smell the savory scent of a breakfast being cooked in the inn's common room. Since their payment included a meal, she was extremely eager to get her money's worth. She pauses and casts a glance over to see if Acqua is awake yet.

Acqua yawns, just waking up then sniffs the air hungrily. "Mmm, something smells good," she remarks to her sister.

[Kender Bard]

"Compliments to the inn," Alethia remarks, grinning. "After breakfast, let's go find some talkative elderly person and see if we can't learn a thing or two."

Acqua grins and nods before getting up and dressing quickly. "Sounds good to me. Let's get some breakfast before I starve to death." Laughing and seeming far too awake for someone who only just got out of bed, Acqua quickly heads for the common room and, more importantly, breakfast.

Alethia follows, taking measure of the people here. The inn is mostly quiet and empty, which isn't that odd considering how few visitors come to Ronduin. Unruffled by this, she thoroughly enjoys her hot, well prepared meal, perking up even more when she sees an older woman shuffle in to warm herself by the fire.

Acqua finishes her own breakfast then glances over at the old woman, then at her sister. "Want to try asking her?" she whispers to Alethia.

Alethia nods and pushes away from the table, walking over and standing quietly next to the old woman, who merely looks up, smiles, then goes back to warming herself up. Alethia clears her throat, which causes the old woman to look up again.
"Greetings," she begins with a smile. "My sister and I are hunting for clues to our past. We thought we'd come to our ancestral homeland and ask around."
"A mighty task," the woman quips.
"We were wondering if you could answer some questions for us," she adds in an almost begging tone. The woman shrugs and nods. Alethia smiles and motions for Acqua to come over and join her.

Acqua comes over to join her sister, having been listening to the conversation. "Hi. I'm Acqua and my sister's name is Alethia, since she didn't bother to introduce herself," she remarks, grinning teasingly at her sister.

Alethia just blushes and mumbles something. The woman smiles and nods her head in kind.
"I am Faus." Alethia thought that was... an odd name for a Water type, but didn't press the matter.
"Could you help us find out more about what happened to our mother? All we know is that she was a water type, looked a lot like my sister, and died after she reached Flux."
The woman eyes Acqua a moment then looks thoughtful, and mutters, "She looks familiar, yes.. I'm not quite sure from where, but I get the feeling that I knew your mother."

Acqua squirms uncomfortably under the older woman's gaze. It goes against her nature as a thief to let a stranger get such a good look at her, and while she's not working currently and knows it's necessary, it's not at all comfortable for her. "Can you tell us anything about her?" she asks, trying to cover up her discomfort. "Anything at all?"

[Kender Bard]

The woman looks away, back into the fire, and her face crinkles up as she tries hard to remember. Alethia remains quiet and patient, knowing that sometimes these things take time with the aged. Eventually, the woman speaks, "There was a beautiful Water-girl that lived near me. I recall she left for a long time, and then returned with a handsome young man with her. Her kin, or whoever she was staying with, must not have approved because they had quite a noisy row over the matter. It ended with the girl and the man running off into the night. Though I can't recall if there were any little ones with them or not."

"I wonder why they didn't approve," murmurs Acqua, considering the story.

[Kender Bard]

Alethia tilts her head as the woman continues to think.
"Maybe because the lad was a Storm type, if my memory serves me," she replies slowly.

Acqua blinks, mildly surprised by that. "A Storm type?" she repeats, frowning thoughtfully. "Could our father have been a Storm?" she thinks, then chuckles softly at the irony if that proves to be the case, aware of how many people comment that her personality is more Storm-like then Water-like.

Alethia looks no less shocked, but a bit more troubled. "If that was the case, do you think that they would have went to Maelstrom at all?"
The woman smirks and shrugs. "Well the lass had to pick him up from somewhere! I'm not sure about Maelstrom, they're awfully cruel there. Maybe in Lacuna, or the road. It could be any number of places. I just know that after the left, they never came back."
