Soahc frowned as Efil’s cry reached him and he looked down at the proceedings. “Right then,” he said to no one in particular. Playtime was over—or rather, it’d just begun in earnest. Still maintaining his cycle, he began to steer it into the direction of Karau, Efil, and Zephion, hoping everyone in the vicinity could get out of the way in time.
Several demons lashed out at Neil; he was bombarded on all sides from all stripes of underlings from those demon lords present. Akkarei’s undead demons were the most difficult to dispatch as they felt no pain and even killing blows did not fel them. They required full disabling. Karau’s demons were loaded with savage weaponry and armor and they struck out at Neil with their black hell-metal weapons. They also seemed to not care at when Neil landed anything short of a killing blow on them; their blood seemed to mist away and disappear even if the wounds remained. Zephion’s demons didn’t close in for close quarters fighting, preferring to volley ranged attacks from beyond Neil’s immediate reach or else reach at his mind to psychically rake at him.
Of Ertrael’s demons there were no sign. They had fled back to the volcano upon their lord’s death, his will no longer binding them.
Sunray glanced back at Nalani. “Stay very close to me,” he warned her. Nalani nodded, reaching out and taking a handful of his clothing as Sunray moved briskly forward, protected by her presence as demons approached their group but were kept at bay. Sunray summoned up his energy to throw flames down upon the edge of the grouped demons harassing Neil, focusing on the ranged ones. Nalani cowered behind him. For the moment, they remained near Edward as well so that he was included in Nalani’s circle of protection.
“Another one!” Akkarei called out to Zephion, pointing towards the trio that had just arrived. Zephion moved in their direction, already firing upon them.
Harmony touched Lucifer’s body and teleported away.
Karau flinched visibly at Schuldig’s ringing assault on his mind, but similar to Lilth, something strange happened when Schuldig touched Karau’s mind. A bit of his rage, his hatred and anger, was siphoned away. Karau’s mind reacted to the intrusion like an empathic leech feeding on those emotions, but it wasn’t fast nor strong. Still, it softened the blow. And even more hopeful was the fact that other than that reflexive emotion-grab, Karau seemed unable to retaliate in any other form.
It also kept him distracted. Efil was in terrible pain but also terribly enraged as well. He hadn’t let up on the electrical attack, though it did slack off as Karau ripped his wing off and dealt him grievous wounds. But with that moment of breathing space, Efil brought the dregs of Shadow’s power to bear and called down her divine-infused lightning on them both in a brilliant display. Karau screamed in pain, burned in the flesh, and bled. But his blood returned to him, healing him as fast as Efil was damaging. Efil shifted one sign to Mind and teleported them both into the heart of Soahc’s cyclone.
