It took Acqua a moment to really process what Locket had said, then her discomfort became all the more noticable as she tensed up in her brother's arms. Then she had to close her eyes and take a couple of deep breathes as her emotions warred with each other.
Pixie stared at Locket for a moment, then leapt onto Acqua's shoulder to nuzzle at her cheek.
Acqua shivered, then relaxed a tiny bit. "I think you are someone who I could get to like very much," she told Locket honestly. She took another shaky breath before adding, "I just... need a moment, if you'll excuse me." She slipped out of Amaro's arms and walked away, only slightly hurriedly.
"You want to go after her?" Amaro asked Mat.
"You're her brother, and her rescuer. Better be you," Mat replied. After Amaro had excused himself, Mat looked appologeticly at the three women. "I'm sorry. I should have thought before I spoke. Acqua is somewhat extra sensative at the moment." He considered for a moment, debating between his wife's privacy and the need to soothe hurt feelings, then explained, "One of the demon's managed to get her claws into Acqua before we came here. It hit her with some sort of mental attack that brought back a lot of memories and old issues. She's still healing, really."

Locket still seemed a bit hurt. "I am aware of the kind of havoc a demon can bring down on a person."
Filly lay a hand on Locket's shoulder and cleared her throat. "Well, I apologize if we made your night unpleasant, but we should be going. There's a couple of angels watching over the children we should relieve."

Locket was turning a prism around in her hands, playing with the rainbows it made. She was startled at the sudden tug on her dress and glanced around and down. "Oh, hello!" she greeted cheerfully. "How are you today?"

"I'm very good, er, I mean well. Thank you for asking," Lillian replied politely. This was a princess, after all. A grown up one, not someone her sister's age. "Muma sent me to ask if you wanted to come over to our tree house." She pointed towards the Etafian tree. "Oh! I nearly forgot. She said to say she's sorry about last night."

"Well if she wants me to come," Locket replied slowly. "It would be rude to turn her down." Hopefully this meant that they could patch things up. "Why don't you take me to her?" She smiled and offered her hand.

Lillian smiled happily and took the offered hand. "I'm Lillian Cassandra Sanderson, but everyone calls me Lilly," she told Locket solumnly. "Full names are only for when we're in big trouble and I'm never in trouble. Mostly that's the boys and my bigest big sister, Bas. I'm going to be a healer when I grow up, so I can fix up the boys and Bas when they do something silly or get carried away in practice. Then they won't have to ask Muma and Daddy for healing water and get scolded. I'll only scold a little bit. And I'll be able to fix up Muma, Daddy and Uncle Amaro if the bad people hurt them, cause they're mean and it's Muma, Daddy and Uncle's job to catch mean people. They're mercenaries, you know, and that's what they do. But Muma doesn't like to go on jobs while we're little." As she chattered away, Lillian led the way to the kitchen of the Etafian house. "Muma, I found her! Look!"
Acqua looked up with a small smile. "And talked her ear off, from the sound of things," she remarked, amused.

"On the contrary," Locket assured her. "I listened to every word. A girl after my own heart, that. Sometimes I wish my daughter were a little more chatty like yours. But anyway, thank you for inviting me. I came as a surprise!"

Acqua smiled slightly. "Well, I wanted to appologise for last night," she murmured as she passed the basket of sandwhiches she'd been making to her daughter. "Here you are, sweetheart. Two each for your siblings, then you and your friends can have a picnic with the rest."
"Thank you, Muma," Lillian replied, giving her mother a hug. "Bye bye Princess!" With that she dashed off.
"I'm glad you came," Acqua added to Locket. "I really am sorry for my reaction last night. It wasn't fair and you really do seem like someone I'd like to be friends with."

Locket smiled slightly. "Apology accepted though I suppose there's not much to apologize for. I shouldn't have gotten my feelings hurt. I've been to Flux's temple and had a surprisingly less-than-pleasant time of it before. I can't imagine what it would be like to grow up on the streets. I was raised in Anarlina, myself, so my knowledge of Flux was little to nothing until I finally visited the place."

"It wasn't the easiest childhood I can imagine, but it's past now," she remarked and changed the subject. "Anarlinan, hmm?" Acqua smiled. "My brother-in-law, Talon, sometimes gets mistaken for one of your people. I consider that a good endorsment for your homeland. And I've got a pair of cousins who live there now, though they're Talen'sul born."

"He must be a warm and kind person," Locket replied with a smile. "And we have gotten quite a number of people from Talen'sul and Maelstrom who made their way over to settle with the Contrastans there; though I imagine it goes both ways."
She looked momentarily wistful. "I don't really see much of my old home anymore. I'm afraid I can't give you much news about the place, if you were interested."

Acqua looked a little sorry at that. "A shame. I have been wondering how Zack and Zira were," she murmured, then gave Locket a rueful smile. "But I guess everyone here has some worries for extended family, right? Or are all of your family here?"

A shadow of sorrow passed over Locket's face. "No," she admitted. "My husband is in Khelek, doing his job there. And one of my best friends is on a dangerous mission, far away." She took a breath and then smiled again, softly. "But both are Chosen, and Nagi visits when he can." She frowned thoughtfully. "You know, I've noticed that the rings went to a lot of families, not just lone individuals."
