"Tell me a story, Mommy!" Trinket demanded of her mother.
Locket grinned, tickled her daughter, drawing out a squeal from her that just made Locket grin even wider. "What kind of story?"
"Um, one with a monster!" Trinket said. "But! It has to be a GOOD monster!"
Locket considered those stipulations and grinned, held her arms out and slowly flapped them. "How about I tell you of Heartseeker, the Dragon of old Anarlina?" She advanced on her daughter, who backed up, giggling. "He was a biiiig dragon! His scales were pure white and his horns were made of solid gold! And when he got annoyed, he'd take a deep breath, and..." She sucked in a breath until her chest puffed out and then lunged forward at Trinket. "RRRAAWWWRR!!!"
Trinket squealed, ran around her mother to hide behind a chair. "Nooo!"
"Where are you running off to, little girl?" Locket asked, deepening her voice. "I just thought you looked tasty! But I won't gobble you up! I'm here to love and protect all of the people of Anarlina! I am the dragon of the Elements! And I can grant you a great wish if you heed the quests that I lay out for you and all of the other Anarlinans!"
Trinket peeked around the chair, grinning. "Ooh! Yeah! What's my quest?"
"You have to go give your brothers a kiss!"
Trinket wrinkled her nose. After a moment of contemplation, she said, "It better be a wish with chocolate in it."
"It'll be the best chocolate," Locket agreed solemnly. As Trinket scampered off to do as commanded, Locket grinned and flopped down into the chair, putting her feet up. Yep, that seemed historically accurate enough to her. When Trinket was older, she could fill in the blanks of the whole story herself. "And then all of Anarlina got chocolate... Hmmm! Come to think of it.. We really should have!"
