[Skittlebug]

It isn't long after when the door swings open yet again, though this time it's a regular, Merchant Assunta. Once inside he takes a quick look around, seeming a touch worried.

By then, Wisp was working in the front of the shop on another item. At the merchant's entrance, she paused, inclining her head to him. "What brings you to us today, sir?"

[Skittlebug]

The merchant glances around once more and clears his throat. "My wife, did she bring in something of mine earlier. A cloak?"

[Darastrix]

Wisp nodded. "She did, sir. There's a rather large tear in it, so I told her that it wouldn't be finished until tomorrow afternoon. It's in back at present."

She could easily guess the cause of his concern. If he wanted to "examine" the damage for himself as a pretense to sneaking that note away, that was fine with her.

He licks his lips, looking all the more nervous and approaches. "You didn't find anything in the pockets, did you?"

[Darastrix]

"If you're worried that you might have left something in your cloak, I can fetch it for you to check," Wisp responded, sidestepping the question as she got to her feet.

[Skittlebug]

He narrows his eyes at her avoiding the question and quickly walks the rest of the distance across the room toward. "You read it, didn't you." He accuses in a quiet voice.

[Darastrix]

Wisp stiffened were she stood, unsure of what he might do if he grew too agitated. Thank Etaf the shop windows were clear glass. Now, if only Taylor would come back.

"You will maintain your distance, sir," she stated, with more control than she felt. "I don't care what any of our customers do in their private lives and I'll thank you not to drag me into yours."

He takes a deep breath, seeming to rein himself in. "May I check my cloak please?"

[Darastrix]

"Of course, sir. Just let me get it for you." Wisp stepped away from him, back stiff and wings drawn in, and walked briskly to the back room to retrieve the cloak.

"Here it is," she stated, upon returning, and held it out to him.

[Skittlebug]

As she hands him the cloak he grabs it, and her arm underneath it, his eyes turning hard again. "I trust that you will forget anything you might have read."

[Darastrix]

Wisp met his eyes with a cold expression. How dare he! It was his own stupidity that had gotten him caught. "As I have already said, I do not get involved in people's private affairs. Take your letter and leave."

[Skittlebug]

For a moment he does nothing, then just as quickly as he'd grabbed her arm in the first place he snatches the cloak, slips the paper out of it, and drops the cloak back on the counter. "Right." With that he turns and leaves.
