Looking to the Stars|Grandisle

Kamilla braces herself against the railing of one of the higher balconies of the Melanthios home, one with a view of the palace of course. She and Kadoc had remained there with Adrian and Lauretta since the island was taken over, trying to make the most of what they had left. She had been having a difficult time watching herself and her tongue, and was feeling particularly weary tonight. She allows herself the luxury of a sneer as she gazes toward the palace, while no one would see. Oh Soahc, are we all just part of some game of yours?

She turns her gaze skyward, "Would you not help us, even once, in our despair? Even a game needs strength on both sides to be worthwhile."

"Talking to the skies Kam?"

She jumps, not having heard her brother join her on the balcony, and spares him a small smile, though she half expects him to mock her. "I wonder if it would do more good, sometimes."

"Hope is still hope, isn't it, so long as we're still here." Kadoc puts an arm around her and looks up himself, hope for a way to strike back, he thinks to the stars.

[Kender Bard]

"It's not faith if you need an answer to believe we're looking out for you, especially in the hard times," a voice notes behind them.

Soahc had taken a very bizarre form, something of a hermaphrodite. His face was masculine while his body was very feminine. His voice, at the moment, was male but with each word it gained a little more pitch, inching its way to a feminine range. His hair was long, black fading to white at the tips. His clothing was riotously colored, even by Grandisle standards. He stood behind the two, arms crossed and smirking slightly.

"Although, Kamilla has a point. About the game needing strength on both sides. Though I would say that depends entirely on the game." She laughed in a high soprano. "Sometimes it's just so much fun to see something utterly crushed, destroyed, undone. It's such a thrill to see a great and towering thing crumble because of a single, well placed blow, exploiting its faults. But it's so hard to leave well enough alone. When the dust clears and there's nothing but rubble, the next question is, 'What can I make with this?'"

The twins turn as one at the strange voice, first startled, then shocked. There was no question who the figure before them could be. Kamilla makes a small strangled sound and leans back against the railing for support.

Kadoc snaps out of the shock first and begins to drop to his knees, "L-Lord Soahc?"

[Kender Bard]

"That's a good place for you down there," Soahc said with a wink, her voice starting to deepen again. "And you got it in one--good! I'm not exactly going for subtle here." He pointed a finger at Kamilla. "Don't fall. That would be a terrible thing to have happen. And a touch rude, I might add. I mean, how many hosts pitch over a railing when a guest shows up?"

Kamilla nods slowly, still shaky but straightening herself, "What.."

"Why us?" Kadoc asks at the same time.

[Kender Bard]

"Oh mortals, you always ask that," Soahc sighed. "Why not? I propose. Perhaps something you said caught my interest. Perhaps I've been paying close attention to you and yours for your fine devotional surface to me. Most likely, I was bored."

"Now you have a bit of a predicament so I'm curious how you hope to get out of it."

Kamilla can't help a small sneer, "If we could just strike back at them somehow."

"Make them pay," Kadoc glances to his sister.

She nods, bolstered by her anger, "If we could rally all the others we might be able to do something against them, but most of them are too scared."

[Kender Bard]

Soahc seemed deeply pleased with their anger. She reached down and stroked back Kadoc's hair and shot Kamilla a fierce little smile. "Then I will help you, my sweets. I have a gift for you. It's not quite... ready yet. But it will be." Fire surrounded his hands as he cupped them and a large egg formed from the flames, cooling and taking corporeal form. "Fire feeds off passionate emotions. Stoke your anger. Nurture it into a mighty wrath and you will be rewarded for your rage by hatching this egg into your savior." She offered it to them. "Careful. It's warm."

The twins stare at the egg in surprise for a moment before accepting it, carefully, and holding it between them. Kamilla runs a finger gently over it's side, her eyes bright "We will."

"Thank you," Kadoc breaths, in a much more reverent voice.

[Kender Bard]

"Protect it, hatch it, and you'll be rewarded," Soahc purred. "Oh yes and you're about to receive a bit of unpleasant news. But that's nothing out of the norm for you two is it?" And then he was simply gone.

At the same time, one of the house servants ran upstairs and knocked at the door. "Lord and Lady Ryker! I have important news!"

Kamilla hastily throws a sleeve over the egg and motions toward the door, casting about for a more suitable, long term, place for it.

Kadoc blinks and trots over to the door, opening it but not fully, "Yes?"

[Kender Bard]

The servant makes a hasty bow. "His Lordship of Grandisle, Liam, bids all noble Houses to either host or attend a ball, by his order. Your hosts requests you give your preference on hosting or attendance so that they might prepare accordingly."

[Skittlebug]

Kadoc gives the servant a blank stare for a brief moment, a ball, really? "Er, well, I suppose it would be up to the Melanthios' if they host, seeing as it's their home. Kamilla and I will attend."

[Kender Bard]

The servant scurries off and soon Adrian comes to their door. "Can I come in?" he asked, knocking softly at the door.

Meanwhile, Kamilla had tucked the egg carefully amongst some of her clothes in a chest. She walks over as Kadoc answers the door, curious about the new developments.

"So, what do you make of the news?" Kadoc asks after letting him in.
