Flame shrugged slightly. "I don't know, really," she admitted. "I don't like Harmony, I guess." She pulled a face and added very softly, "And at least when you're mad you're paying attention."
Flame hadn't made any real friends in Sensatia. Most of the fire-mind children there were either younger then her, or settled in Sensatia and weren't as rough and tumble as Fira children. Flame found them boring, they found her agressive and nosy. Therefore Flame had latched onto her brother for peer-company and it hurt when he didn't want her around.

Libre crossed his arms. "If you don't like her, then fine, though I don't know why you wouldn't. But you can't monopolize my attention. It's not like I'm ignoring you, for Thuoth's sake, whenever you're in Sensatia. And Harmony is important to me. Spending time with her makes me happy, except when you try to spoil that time. It's just for a few hours every other day--that's not too much to ask, is it?"

Flame curled up and sobbed bitterly, though making sure she wouldn't cry loud enough to be heard, until she'd cried herself to sleep.
Half an hour or so later, Tres frowned worriedly and went in search of Thelon. "Have you seen Flame? I thought she was still with her pony, but it's been turned out with the others. And she's not in her room either."

Flame didn't answer, but the feel of her mind indicated she was sound asleep. She was still in the guest hut, though she'd crawled under the bed at some point during her crying fit so that no one could see her even if they came into the hut for some reason. Flame hated to let anyone see her cry.
Thelon was a little puzzled about that, but he was relieved that she wasn't far away. "She's sleeping in the guest hut for some reason," he informed Tres. "Maybe she went in there to play and got tired out...?" But he wasn't really convinced that was the case.

"Why go in there to play?" Tres asked, also puzzled. "That hut has nothing in it but a bed, a couple of chairs and a table. Nothing that would interrest a child. Come on, let's make sure she's all right. I wonder if she's ill or something."
Tres lead the way to the guest hut, calling out softly, "Flame? Flame, where are you sweetheart?"
Flame didn't wake up, but she did stirr and make a quiet little whimpering noise in her sleep. The sound was somewhat muffled by the fact that, for the first time since she'd started chewing her nails as a nervous habit, Flame was sucking her thumb.
Thelon glanced at the bed and pulled the covers back, heaving a sigh at the sight. "I guess she was more upset by her talk with Ann than I expected she would be." He bent down to pick her up. "Let's get her in her own bed."

"Well, at least we can be sure she'll never do anything like this again," Tres sighed, reaching out to stroke Flame's hair as Thelon picked the little girl up. "She's flithy, but I suppose a bath can wait until morning. You put her to bed and I'll go see to it that some of dinner will be aside in case she wakes up hungry."
"All right," Thelon agreed and carried Flame off to their home, easing her down on to her bed and tucking her in. He reached out to Libre's mind only to realize with a start that he was back in Sensatia already. Well. Fair enough. He left his son alone.
