~That feels strange~ Harmony noted to Schuldig, his attempts to shield her from it evidently not working. ~It feels... I don't know the word for it. Old?~
At the end of the incantation, after a long spell of silence, the queen slowly lowered her rod and replaced it at her side. "Let us prepare for our faerie kin. Gather more food and prepare some temporary groves."
The faeries began to move apart as they set out to fulfill their work and duties.
Lairen and Rive returned then, dragging a squirming young girl between them. Atarai lifted a brow at them both.
"She's not a bonded human," Lairen explained to the queen. "I've no idea how she got so close to us. Sheer luck?"
"Or perhaps we are stretching our boundaries to their very limit, even with our earth magic to help keep us hidden," Atarai sighed. "I trust you wouldn't have brought her if you didn't think she could make a potential candidate?"
"Actually, we revealed ourselves too hastily," Rive admitted with a flush of shame. "And she tried to lie and deceive us until we got a closer look at her and saw no sprite."
Atarai gave them both an irritated look and then peered at Kura who was grumbling curses under her breath as she tried to break free of the surprisingly strong grip of the two faerie women. "She's certainly fiery. Do we have any free sprites to which she can bond?"
"I don't want to bond to a stupid faerie!" Kura snarled.
"No," Lairen answered.
"Bind her for now, so she can't run off, and we'll figure out what to do with her later," Atarai answered.
Lairen ordered a lesser faerie to fetch them some of her strong vines from her grove. Soon Kura was bound at the wrist and ankle and left to sit under a tree nearby, wriggling and growling while everyone else went about their business.
~Did you see that?~ Harmony asked her father. She'd been paying close attention.
Once freed of her burden, Lairen located Nuo and made her way over to him. "There you--sorry I could not be here for the gathering, though I felt the summons. So that's what it was all about?"
