Out on the Sands|Clan Fira-Rccus, Naurorod

Flame was bright-eyed and grinning with excitement as she and Thelon rode away from the huts of the clans. Secret, sitting on the horse's back behind Flame, had somehow managed to curl up and fall asleep again without falling off.

"Thank you for coming riding, Daddy," Flame told her father, giving him a smile. "I never get to go out of the clan." She pouted a little at that and muttered, "Not like the other kids do."

While it was true Flame was kept close to the clan, so were most children around her age. The only difference between her and the other children was that they were allowed to go off for short rides in groups of four or more, while Flame wasn't allowed to go off without an adult. The same rules applied to Amneris, naturally, but Flame didn't find that particularly comforting.

She paused suddenly, looking back towards the clan as Secret's ears pricked up. "I hear something," Flame announced.

Thelon slowed his mount and looked back, trying to spot or hear something for himself. "What is it?" he asked. He wondered idly if someone from the clan had decided to join them.

Slaadi often wanders a little farther out than he should while training, due to his beast affinity he doesn't feel the heat or get dried out as fast as others, and he doesn't always notice how far away he's gotten. This happens to be one of those days, and he's decided to test the limits of his fire abilities. Picking an arbitrary spot he settles down, grabbing his sign and going over his chants, working himself up for a few moments. Once set he begins to create a sphere of flame, letting it grow while maintaining it's shape. Once the sphere is stable he starts feeding it, growing it bigger and bigger...

From Flame and Thelon's perspective a faint glow is visible, growing steadily. After a certain point it begins to falter and a faint yelp can be heard, followed by a fwoosh as the flames break free and burn themselves out. A faint plume of smoke rises from the area accompanied by coughing.

"Sounds like someone lost control," Flame remarks with a hint of prideful smugness. She never lost control. "Come on Daddy, let's go see." Kicking her horse into a trot, Flame headed towards the smoke.

Thelon frowned and turned his horse after his daughter. ~Yes, let's go make sure they're not hurt~ he agreed, concerned. After all, it was most likely a child working on their powers. Adults did not lose control easily unless hurt.

Coughing, Slaadi wipes his arm across his face and glances around to make sure Dune isn't hurt before dropping onto the sand. For her part the lizard hunches down at a safe distance, not wanting anything more to do with fire for today.

"That was close wasn't it!" he chuckles as he checks himself over, more amused than anything. His hair and face turn out to be a little singed but he thinks that's about it. The sphere had gotten to a pretty good size before he lost control and he figures he's getting better.

"Slaadi!" Flame calls once she's close enough to see who's the cause of the fireball. She smirks teasingly at the boy and adds, "What did you mess up with?" Just to show off her own control, she activates her fire sign and makes a smiley face out of fire.

[Kender Bard]

"Flame, you should be asking if he's hurt or not," Thelon scolds gently as he dismounts and walks over to the boy, kneeling down to look him over. "You seem all right, though, to me. Though I think you'd best get Aideen to put a bit of salve on you. You seem a little burnt here and there."

Any other time Slaadi would have tried to mess up her smiley face, but he's worn out enough that he doesn't bother. Instead he stays where he is on the sand and grins a little sheepishly, "aww I'm all right. Hey! Do I still have eyebrows?" he grins wider as if the prospect of burning off his own eyebrows is exciting.

Flame giggles and banishes her face. "Let's see," she replies, dismounting and walking over to get a better look. "Well, you've got one of them," she giggled. "But the one on the left is almost all gone." She snickered then added, "What were you trying to do? Bet I can do it."

"I think that there's no reason to, dear," Thelon replied a bit firmly. "Now, Slaadi was it? It appears you and my daughter are acquainted. Are you friends, then?" He brushed off errant sand from his hands on his thighs and stood, satisfied the child was in good health.

Slaadi nods up at Thelon, pushing himself up as well, "Yeah, she likes to think she's better than me, but she's all right."

He reaches up to poke at his now partial eyebrow and grins at Flame, "I was just seeing how much fire I could handle at one time."

"I am better and you know it," Flame counters, grinning. "I've still got my eyebrows, haven't I? How much fire could you manage? Did you make it into a huge fireball or just make normal flames on the ground and see how many you could keep going?"

It doesn't take much to see that Flame's likely to repeat Slaadi's little experiment the second she has the opportunity to do so. The friendly rivalry only encourages her love for playing with her element.

"Both of which are equally dangerous and not suitable play for children," Thelon says, his tone showing that he's clearly beginning to grow annoyed. "How good are you at riding, Slaadi?"

Slaadi straightens a little at Thelon's tone, not wanting to get himself into trouble, though he's itching to prove Flame wrong.
"I'm good at riding sir, mostly I just have to ask the horse to go where we need to go."
