Nuo had felt strange all day, like something was missing that he couldn't quite put his finger on. Minus the strange sense of loss, though, that was almost normal for him those days. Since he'd come to the Beastlands, he'd just kept changing. He knew some of the fey thought it was because of his work with the elixirists, but he hadn't taken anything he hadn't been given.
Still, his ears were more sharply pointed than they had been, his skin darker, and his hair--all of it--had gone from blond to a green richer than any of his plant dyes had ever been able to produce. As winter had ended, he thought, too, that he was feeling the cold a little less, though the weight of the season itself had still left him drowsy. Oddly enough, he hadn't seemed to need to sleep as much.
So, he was feeling odd again, so something had changed. "But what?" he murmured aloud as he settled at the base of a large tree. It probably wasn't important. Connecting with and talking to plants always helped when he felt out of sorts anyway, so he slipped his fingers through the slit in his sleeve and reached out to...nothing.
He didn't feel the bloom of warmth he'd come to associate with using his Earth sign. He didn't feel the plants around him or the tree at his back. Nuo whipped his shirt off to get a better look at his arm, dreading and expecting to see a cut running though his sign, but no. This was worse. This was much worse.
His sign was GONE. It wasn't slashed or damaged; it just wasn't THERE. Nuo pressed his hand to the spot anyway, murmuring a chant, desperately reaching for a connection he could no longer feel.
Blueberry watched her companion in growing concern and confusion, and after all her attempts at trying to coax him to get up and go back to the court, she zipped back herself, looking for Maple or Lairen.
