"I'll have to get permission," Poppy said, speaking carefully. She didn't want to commit to anything. Her brother would encourage it, she was sure, but if she wasted her time playing, who would take care of him? Not for the first time, she silently cursed the Forces, the Earth Mother, and all of their priests, who lived better than anyone in Humontis.

"Well if you do, feel free to come by whenever you like," Gale told her. "I'll tell the nanny that you're a welcome guest and she'll see to it you girls are looked after if I'm not here. Now, I'm sure you're eager to go get something nice at the market and Cherry should rest a while so I'll bid you farewell for now."

Poppy nodded and headed for the door. She was eager, though more to get back home than anything. She needed to figure out best to spend the coin she'd been given and to get out of adults' attention for a bit. "Goodbye, ma'am," she said, careful to keep her tone polite.
