Echo tested the door carefully. Locked, what a surprise. Listening carefully to the conversation in the room, and shaking her head at Sashi's assumption (really, you just had to look at Acqua to see that wasn't true - though they'd all be better off it was true), Echo got to work on quietly picking the lock.

Lukas considered what Sashi said and took a deep breath. "I know..but..we could have waited, not scare those kids as much or..something." He shakes his head. "I'm sorry. I know this isn't a good time."

[Kender Bard]

"I didn't want them involved," Sashi agreed quietly, regretfully. "But we wouldn't have gotten a better time. I'm sorry if it upset you, Lukas... But there's nothing we can do about it now, is there?"

Echo smiled as the lock clicked open and calmly pushed it open. "No, no there isn't. Not now anyway." Leaving the door open, Echo stepped to the side and lent casually against the wall. "So out of curiosity, who did you sell your honour to? And what does assault, kidnapping and trumatising small children earn these days?"

[Kender Bard]

Sashi jumped when the door opened (why hadn't she heard anything?) and she squeezed her right hand to activate her sign. "Who the hell are you!?"

Thank you, Lady, Virgo thought as Echo nicely set up the shot for her. She took aim and waited for the signal.

"Sashi, Sashi, Sashi," Echo chuckled. "Let's not do anything stupid shall we? Well, anything more stupid then you've already done. Really, you'd think a merc smart enough to earn enough for a place like this- Oh! Wait, I forgot. You didn't earn this lovely building did you? Amaro Melissan-Ronoh brought it for you. And you repaid him by betraying his little sister. How... charming." Echo smiled, keeping her lips together to hide her teeth for the moment. "Really Sashi, charcoal?" Echo laughed softly and shook her head. "It's not particularly good at hiding your face. Particularly when you're as dark-skinned as you and I. You've have been wiser to wear a mask. Though, credit where credit is due, you did manage to surprise Mat and Kit nicely. Not many manage that. Now, who paid you?"

When Echo entered the room, Lukas tensed up and tried to avoid being noticed too easily since he didn't have his sword at his side right now and tried to tilt his head enough to touch his mind sign on his neck while trying to reach into Echo's mind to try and read it's surface thoughts while murmuring the chant as silently and motionlessly as possible.

"Go to hell," Sashi growled. She knows a lot. Must be a thief. So, they'd come for her and Lukas after all. She stepped protectively in front of Lukas. Get us out of here, Lukas, she thought desperately, hoping he was listening. She tried to buy a little time. "How do you know so much?"

Oh no, no running away dear, Echo thought. She knew a stall when she saw it, could smell the fear in the air. Time for a little shock. Darting forward with all her unholy speed, Echo lunged for Sashi, attempted to grab her, bared her fangs in a cruel smile. "I. Was. Watching."

Lukas' eyes widened and tried to tap more deeply into his mind signs to try to throw Echo away and out the door telekineticaly(SP?). "Stay away from her!"

[Kender Bard]

Sashi thrust her left hand towards Echo, releasing a quick flash of fire, hoping to blind or startle woman (or thing. What the hell was that?!) "Lukas!" Sashi yelped. "Let's go!" She kept her right hand balled and began to chant, build up her power.

"Vi, take care of him!" Echo called, even as she dodged the flash of fire and whipped her knife (treated with a fast acting, paralyzing poison) at Sashi. She was not letting this pair get away, she told herself, stumbling as Lukas attempted to grab her mentally. "Damn it, you should have just told me what I wanted to know," she added in a snarl, tossing another knife at Lukas before lunging at Sashi again.

As Echo threw the first knife at Sashi, he tried to chant quickly but was interrupted as he attempted to dodge the knife thrown at him, getting stuck in the right shoulder in the process before trying to grab Sashi's arm with his left hand to teleport them out.

Feeling the hot, jagged cut of Echo's knife against her skin, Sashi cried out in pain. She stumbled and wound up twisting around and trying to catch herself on Lukas. For a moment, she found herself staring wild-eyed at Lukas.

At the exact same time, Virgo released the shot she had lined up; she'd only needed to move it a fraction of an inch and let fly, reaching for a second bolt already.

Sashi's interposing spoiled the shot meant for Lukas. Sashi jerked as the bolt thudded into her back an instant before Lukas teleported them both. Her eyes widened. Lukas...

The spoiled shot didn't ruffle Virgo. Lukas's teleporting did. "Damnit!" she hissed and sprang back up to her feet.

Echo swore. "So much for getting answers," she growled. "Come on Virgo, we'd best get out of here. They're both dead at least." She knew what she'd flung at Lukas was the knife she'd treated with a deadly hemlock solution. He had a slow and painful few candlemarks ahead of him before Taed took him and Sashi would likely bleed to death before the paralyzing effect wore off.

"Not a complete waste, at least."
