Gemma was shiverring, and not entirely from the cold, but she managed a smile for her father. "I know it will be," she replied, as much to reassure him as to reassure herself. After a moment of silence she added softly, "I'm sorry about this, dad..."

"You have nothing to apologize for," he told her firmly. "It's not your fault that some man has taken such an unhealthy interest in you. It's my job to protect you from people like that." At the palace, he said to one of the guards, "Inform whoever is currently acting as regent that Master Thelon of Sensatia wishes to speak with them immediately."

Gemma wasn't so sure of that. It wasn't her fault she was being followed, but maybe the situation wouldn't have gotten so bad if she had told her parents about the notes sooner.
"Yes sir," replied the guard, sending a page to do just that. "Please, Master Thelon, come in. Lord Calder will be with you shortly, I'm sure." After escorting Thelon and Gemma inside, the guard returned to his post, leaving them alone.
It wasn't long before Flash arrived, having clearly dressed hastily and trying to look a good deal more awake then he actually was at this hour of morning. "I'd say good morning," he remarks, looking at them in concern. "But I doubt anything that brought you here at this hour is good news. Would you like to accompany me to my study? There's a fire going there so you can warm up and I'll have a servant make us a pot of tea."
Gemma smiled slightly. She liked Flash, even if they'd met only rarely.

"Your hospitality is appreciated," Thelon answered by way of assent and followed Flash. "And you're right, I am not here for pleasure or anything good at all."
Once in the study, and the order for tea sent, Thelon wasted no time in explaining the situation to Flash. "My daughter is being stalked by an obsessed Mind," he told Flash promptly. "Quite likely, this individual has followed us from Anarlina. I understand that there's not much you can do, but I would appreciate it if there were a few guards stationed near our inn. He managed to sneak a note into my childrens' room."

"Of course," Flash replied at once. He paused thoughtfully for a moment, glancing at Gemma in concern and then said, "I don't think I'd be over stepping my boundarys in offering this, given Shadow and Tres' friendship, so, if you would like, your family is welcome to stay here, Master Thelon. There's certainly no shortage of guards. Otherwise, I'm more then happy to assign guards to your inn and, if you'd like, I can assign someone to be a bodyguard for your daughter."
Gemma resisted the urge to grimace at that. Even though it was for her own safety, the loss of any sort of privacy bothered her. But then, did she have any privacy right now? She could never be certain if she was being watched or not. She shuddered a little at that thought.

I like the idea, Tres murmured. The manor is the safest place I know in Maelstrom and it'd let us still have our vacation somewhat, which returning home wouldn't, though I'd want to be certain Shade doesn't mind.
I'd like to stay, Gemma thinks after hearing Tres' feelings on the matter.
Flash waits patiently, pouring himself a cup of tea when the post arrives and taking a large sip to try and chase off the last fog of tiredness from his mind.

"It seems we will stay if I can get Lord Shadow's permission personally," Thelon said, careful not to let his exasperation show. He really didn't desire to speak with Shadow, but, well.
Hands still on his signs, he cut off his wife and daughter and reached out to Shadow instead. ~Lord Shadow. I hope I am not interrupting anything but I have a matter of urgency with which to speak to you about.~ He detailed the current events once again, adding Flash's offer. ~Have we your permission to take refuge in your home?~

Shadow was awake, having risen with the birds to enjoy a quiet sunrise and having a few moments to himself without some drama arising in his life. Needless to say, THAT idea had just flown out the window and had he not been concerned about Tres and Gemma, it would have annoyed him. As it was, he simply thought back to Thelon, Of course you do, Master Thelon. Flash is quite right to offer, as I'd have done if I were home. Please, let me know if there's more I can do and give my best to Tres and the children.
While waitting for her father to finish, Gemma moves closer to the warmth of the fire and Flash smiles at her. "It'll be all right," he assures her as he passes her another cup of tea. "We'll find out who's behind this."

Thelon removed his hands. "Shadow has given his blessing," he answered. "We'll be staying here. I'll fetch my wife and children and bring them over immediately. In the meanwhile... I would appreciate any ideas you have as to how to catch this man. If he follows us out of Maelstrom and into Sensatia, there is very little way he can hide from me and still harass us. But I would rather get him sooner than that."

"Of course," Flash murmurs, his mind already off and racing with the puzzle of what to do with this problem. "Would you mind if I saw the notes and the gifts?" he asked both his guests, looking somewhat lost in thought.

"I'll bring them with me," Thelon assured Flash and sighed softly. "What I wouldn't give for a seer right now," he grumbled quietly. Especially one who could read from touch. "I'll be back," he assured them, and teleported away again, returning with his family, their things, and the items requested.

"Thank you for this, Flash," Tres said when they arrived.
"You don't need to thank me, Tres," Flash replies, taking the notes and gifts from Thelon and locking them away in a desk drawer. "I'll look over those in a moment, but first let me make sure some guest rooms are made ready so you can all catch up on your sleep. The children look ready to fall asleep on their feet."
It was a pretty acurate description of Flame at the moment. Now that her fear had been soothed away, the little girl was leaning heavily against Tres with her eyes about three quarters closed.
"I won't be long," Flash promises. "Help yourself to the tea and relax." He hurries out of the room and Tres sinks heavily into a chair, pulling Flame into her lap.
"I'm getting too old for this sort of excitement," she murmurs ruefully.
"Is the scary man going to go away now, Daddy?" Flame asks.

Gemma smiled at Libre and tapped the carpet beside her, inviting Libre to come join her in front of the fire. I'm fine, Libre, she replied soothingly to her brother. I got a bit of a fright tonight and I seem to have spent too much time around Uncle Zap. I've picked up his bad habit of attracting trouble. She winks playfully at Libre. But mum and dad are helping me get out of it and everything is going to be just fine. So don't you worry, little brother.
