Honour of a Thief?|Haven, Ilyamen

Cain looked warily over his shoulder as he entered the city guard house. If any of the guild saw him here, he would not live to see morning, but it was a small price to pay for what what the young thief stood to gain now. Revenge would be sweet.

"I want to speak to your commander," he told the guard on desk duty in the front room. For a moment he hestiated, then swollowed hard and spoke in a firm, serious voice. "I have information that would allow you to capture the Lord of Thieves."

The guard at the desk looked up at the visitor a bit annoyed, he was enjoying the nothing that was going on all day. Now he has another crackpot with information to deal with, and protocol won't let him just turn the man away.

"Right, let me signal for her."

He stands up and rings the second of many various sized bells, it makes three deep tones and immediately afterward the sound of running could be heard from a room further back.

"While we wait I suppose we can fill out the appropriate paperwork. Name and Occupation?"

"My name is Cain," Cain replies. "And I'm just a humble traveling bard." He taps the tin wistle he has attached to his belt and glances over his shoulder nervously.

The guard put's some ink on a quill and begins filling in a rather short information sheet as Cain spoke. He then looked up and clicked his tongue a few times to feign thought.

"Don't shake so much, it starts making me nervous. Commander Isaia won't bite... well, won't bite you at least."

Just as his sentence trailed off the door was flung open and a strongly built woman appeared in it's frame. Her armor was obviously of a much higher quality then that of a standard guard. The man at the desk stood up and snapped a salute.

"At ease," an order the guard at the desk complied to with great ease, she then turns her gaze onto the visitor, "I suppose you are the one, might I ask what is so great that you asked for me?"

"How about the fact I can tell you the identity of the Lord of Thieves and where you'll be able to find him?" Cain replied.

Antonia paused for a second, and clenched her hand into a fist a couple times to keep it from making a motion that looks to overtly like thought. There is no way that it could be as easy as that, it must be another down on his luck fool looking to bluff the guard into giving him a quick copper.

"As great as a snipe hunt sounds, I already get enough complaints about the Ilyamen guard clanking about fruitlessly. I can only work in proof and guarantees Mr...?"

The words describe honey, but unless the bees exist they are empty. Now she needs to figure out what kind of proof would make this legitimate. Hopefully he can produce something good enough, this could get her name in the histories if true.

Cain smiles, but it's a cold, unpleasent expression. "My name's Cain," he says quietly. "And as for guarantees, well... I can't exactly give you any physical proof. It's not as though the man will write out a signed confession for me, but... If you send a person to Talen'sul and go to a tavern called The Cracked Barrel, without talking to anyone in the Talen'sul guards since I assure you, there are spies among that set, you'll find that a tall, red haired, blue eyed man called Mat spends most evenings there. The Cracked Barrel is run by a former thief, and many of the customers there have spent time in these and other cells. I'm sure you'll reconise some of them, and you'll be certain of hearing them refer to the man, Mat, as "My lord" throughout the night."

Cain takes a step back. "I want 30 silver as payment for this infomation, but I know that's a lot to ask for what are so far just empty words. I won't collect my payment until you've captured the man."

Antonia cracks her knuckles, her experience shows as she mulls this over in her head. As a warrior the lady has sets herself apart from the normals that make up the Ilyamen guard, even if her ability as a leader is lacking. She is painfully aware of the inadequacies of her choices, and that is never more apparent then right now when she has to get a strike force together.

"I accept your tip, and will give my word of silence. I figure things wouldn't work out well for you if this got out, if it is factual. I cannot guarantee you a time frame for the operation as of this moment, but I think you'll know when time comes for you to collect."

The force can't be large, and that is the major problem. If she could just out muscle them by sending waves of men at this she most definitely would. She needs someone who is a decent judge of character to assist in picking her soldiers.

Cain smirks and nods. "Yes, I rather think I will too," he agrees casually and starts towards the door then turns back as if something had just occurred to him.

"Oh, I should mention... The man you're after has seduced a young girl into marrying him - adopted sister of a Talen'sul noble, though she's a street brat by birth. She plays at leading the guild with her husband, so I'd be careful. She's likely to run right to her brother if given a chance and I'm sure you know how nobles are. They think they can buy their way out of trouble at all times. The girl goes by the name Kit, but her true name is Acqua Sanderson."

She really doesn't know how she is going to handle this. The situation was much easier when the man was nothing more then another nut. There are several scenario's running through her mind, and nearly none of them end positively. Even with a proper arrest, if it is found out she sent Ilyamen military into foreign lands it could cause an incident. She REALLY doesn't want someone else getting the prestige for this, that would be the same as melting her life savings into earrings, very pretty but ultimately useless.

"Your tip has been noted. I have much thinking to do, I assure you that you have come to the right place with this however."

"I'm sure I have," Cain replied simply. "And I shall leave you to your thoughts." With a nod of farewell, Cain left the guardhouse and quickly disappeared into the crowds.

From this point on, it was merely a waiting game. He would come out of this far wealthier then before if it went well and if it didn't, well, he was patient. There would be more chances in the future.

Cain had no taste for leadership. He didn't care who would take over the guild when Mat and Kit were gone. He simply wanted the traitors dead. Fair was fair, after all. He chuckled coldly as he walked.
