A week had passed and the tension was building to the point where no one in Brightmore Manor would have been surprised to see the building explode from the pressure inside. Despite Saph and Laura having arrived at the palace days earlier, Flash was rarely to be seen.
He and Shadow had had an explosive arguement after Shadow had torn strips off Seafoam for turning pages too loudly while reading in the libary and the two men were still barely capable speaking civilly to each other. Flash spent most of his time talking to Acqua and Mat, occassionally coming back to report on the thieves' progress.
Which was what he was doing right now, although the report seemed directed more to Laura, Lya and Saph then to Shadow. "So, the Guild are capturing and questioning bandits about this so called Bandit Lord under the guise of the Guild's usual attempts to drive the bandits away from Guild areas. So far they don't have anything solid, but according to Mat there are some promising leads," Flash finished.

"I can't predict that, Laura," Flash replies. "Although, I'd guess we have another week at best. And, if someone," he shot a sharp look at Shadow and recieved a scowl in return, "is prepared to start accepting good advice, I'd advise you assume we have less time then that. As for the best leads, well, the guild has a very strong lead that Lumi is in the Beastlands..."
"Can they continue to search that area, then?" Saph asked.
Flash looked a little hesitant and he and Vortai exchanged a glance. "Mat and Kit say they're willing, but the bandits are startinging to fight back. If the Guild continue snooping, they're going to be putting theirselves at risk," Flash murmured. "Considering they're acting out of nothing but good will," another dark look directed at Shadow, "I don't know how much we can ask of them."
"Enough to get Lumi back," Shadow snaps. "They agreed to help and they will continue to do so."

"We cannot force them," Lya responded simply and subdued. She brought up a hand and rubbed her eyes a little as she continued to speak. "It is as if any other nation has extended their assistance to us. If it had been Anarlina, we could not simply treat them in that manner. Worse to do so to thieves as they live close enough to home to make our lives a nightmare if we should overly offend them, I imagine. So no; they will stop when they will stop and we cannot do more than that. I think we should contact the Packleader of the Beastlands to enlist his aid, however. It is people on his territory that have perpetrated this crime."
Laura sighed heavily at that. "All that takes time. And the letter did state that if we persecuted them, they would kill Luminous. I'm honestly shocked that Ekaitz has not simply paid however much sum and taken her for themselves, to be truthful."

"They may not be interrested," Vortai murmured. "With the situation in Morilanta possibly being unsettled, Ekaitz may be wary of bringing any trouble on their head without support."
Flash nods in agreement. "Ekaitz has never won a major fight against us, perfering to work through sneaking around and subtler methods. They may not consider striking a blow against us worth the Kingdom's revenge."

"I doubt they'd keep her," Flash muttered. "The chances are, they'd find someway to get their money. I don't doubt there's a Clear somewhere who'd still buy a child slave, or perhaps someone in Monilanta who would. But we won't let it get to that. Now, since I really can't give anymore information, might I be excused? I'd like to spend sometime with my wife."

Lya nodded at that. "And I'll have someone ask General Menasche if there's any... 'sneaky' men in our guard or army that we can bring onto the mission. If Maelstrom militia is anything like Talen'sul's, however, I doubt we'll find much in the way of stealth and subterfuge there."
