Baking for the spirits|Athrug

Tylenis was in the kitchens, working hard to bake some treats for the spirits during spirit night..he wasn't very good at it but he had heard that sometimes the dearly departed sometimes enjoyed this sort of thing. "Now..how do I get the thing OUT of the oven?"

[Kender Bard]

Mia sauntered into the kitchen to seek out some breakfast... it being just a bit before dinnertime for everyone else. She leered at Tylenis - his enthusiasm and dedication to learn kept him in the temple so far. His basic capacity to retain half of what was thrown at him and, well, common sense, made her wish otherwise.

"What are you doing?" she asked, looking between him and the brick oven. "Are you using the oven?"

Taed's mercy, does he even know how to start a fire? she thought.

[tuo]

"Oh, I'm baking for the spirits. Brother Jarvis mentioned a while ago that sometimes they like it when people bake cakes and stuff for them. It's a lot harder then I imagined it would be." He already had a few minor burns on his hands and more then a little bit of flour and other food messes on his robes.

[Kender Bard]

Perhaps he was giving you yet another futile lesson in sarcasm, Mia thought angrily.

"Well I hope you put that food to good use," she scowled at him. "I'm sure Taed thanks you for your.... efforts but if you do something silly, so help me, I'll string you up by your toes. This is a desert for Taed's sake, and we do NOT waste food here!"

[tuo]

"Wait..but you mean there aren't any spirits coming tonight? I thought somebody mentioned something about it.." Tylenis said worriedly. "Well, at worst I could probably ask my family for extra money to pay for this."

[Kender Bard]

He can't possibly mean...

"I most certainly hope you are not referring to Spirit Night, acolyte," Mia said slowly as she would to a particularly slow child. "As that's the only time I can think of when spirits would be going anywhere."

[tuo]

"But, this is the home of Taed is it not? Wouldn't they visit here more often?" Tylenis asks in hopeless confusion.

[Kender Bard]

Mia made a sound of disgust... which she repeated with a groan once she smelt the food beginning to burn. Snatching one of the pan handling tongs she snatched the food from being completely lost and worked to salvage what she could without burning herself. "Spirit Night is a holy day," she growled in annoyance at him. "It happens only once every four years."

[tuo]

Tylenis starts once he also smells the smoke and tries his best to assist her without getting in her way...and actually succeeds for the most part. "Sorry! I didn't mean to offend."

[Kender Bard]

"You didn't offend," Mia said through clenched teeth. Crisis averted, she looked at the food thoughtfully. "Do you truly wish to see spirits, Tylenis?"

[tuo]

"Well, yeah actually. But I won't get the chance for another four years it seems.." Tylenis says with a sigh.

[Kender Bard]

"There is something you can do," Mia replied in a sweet and understanding voice, if only because of the joy she knew she'd get to have if he took her up on the idea. "There is a land called Satich in Reave. The Veil is thin there and one can meet the spirits there if they are patient."

[tuo]

"Truely?" Tylenis asked in surprise. "Would I need permission to go there? I would like to see such a place please."

[Kender Bard]

"No, no you can go when you like," Mia urged him. "I'll make sure that everyone knows where you are and such. I'm sure you'll have a lovely time."

[tuo]

"Well...okay thank you sister Mia." He smiles and gives a respectful bow. "I will need to pack first of course."
