Aakel's nose stung, the briny scent of metal hung in the air and she had indeed found it difficult to hunt prey, let alone track down Thavan's scent and the further she went, the stronger the metallic odour. It never occurred to Aakel that this might be the smell of lightning...
The Forces must have been on her side, however, the weather has stayed pleasant and the tracks remained visible...Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, depending on how one were to interpret it, Aakel noticed more and more trails, all heading either in the same or opposite direction.
For an experienced tracker, this could only mean one thing, there was a settlement nearby.
This put the vixen on edge and she stopped chatting with Shade, who was still in her collar, and strained her eyes for any sudden movement. Aakel was glad in the end that Nyala lent her her cloak, it's dappled grey hood was perfect for hiding her flaming red hair against the bleak white and grey plains.
The Beast stopped in her tracks, she heard noises.
Immediately dropping to a crouch, Aakel made her way to the top of a small hill. Keeping low, she looked out onto the village before her. It seemed to be a rather ordinary looking place, there were houses, busy people, frolicking children and even a temple! But something was terribly different and wrong about this village and it became more obvious to the Fire-Beast the longer she looked.
There were people labouring outside, in dirty and cold frocks, some without even shoes, while others, more adequately dressed, seemed to be lounging about indoors. She wondered at it all, how could they not..? Her questions were answered almost instantly as she spotted one of the well-dressed men beating on a badly-dressed one, treating it like cattle. They were, of course, the slaves.
As soon as Aakel realized this, her blood began to boil. As a Beast, she could not even fathom the idea, how could a person own another person, another human, even if he is weaker? How could they treat their brethren like pets?
As she watched the man beating his 'cattle' a horrible thought went through her mind, Thavan! So, with the most stealth she could possibly muster, she crawled toward the settlement...
