As soon as he'd finished talking to Thelon, Shadow buried his face into his hands. He knew he needed to be organising a search for Ann and Aly, but it was nearly impossible to think past the images his imagination was evilly presenting to him.
The thought of Ann and Alyssa held by Clears and no doubt terrified made him feel ill. Particularly when he remembered what he and Cascata had been put through. Forces, wasn't Damien and Kara enough? Don't let Ann and Aly suffer too, he thought with a stiffled moan.
He couldn't do anything while those images were playing though his mind. He needed to clear his head, push past it, so he could do what needed to be done. He started to rise from the desk and his eyes fell upon the desk drawer. His hands twitched. Maybe... Maybe all he needed was a little time without stress or worry. Relaxing for a little bit would help him think more clearly, wouldn't it?
Flash and Tres would kill him if they ever found out... But they won't. It'll be just this once, Shadow thought, pulling the drawer open and removing the seed pod. Not even a full pod. Just a little, to let me de-stress. And just this one time, then I'll get rid of the rest. He hesitated, then snapped off a part of the pod containing one seed. After stuffing the rest back into its hiding place, Shadow made his way quickly to the nearest of the manor's hidden rooms.
There, once safely locked away from prying eyes and good intentioned advisers, Shadow quickly chewed and swallowed the bit of pod. It didn't take long for the effects to kick in. Shadow sank to the floor and rested his head on a dusty pillow. His last conscious thought before giving in to the wonderful, blissful sense of numbing peace was, Forces, I missed this.
