[Devon]

"Pe-penants?" Lucid tried to mouth the word, but the three year old barely knew the letters to spell his own name. Shrugging it off he continues to follow Reuel, "Daddy says when you do something wrong you should say you're sorry. Did you say sorry?"

[Darastrix]

"Aye," the notary says, his expression haunted. "So many times, in so many ways. I beg for forgiveness daily, for the chance to set things right, and receive no answer." A shudder passes through Reuel's slight frame. "What did this one do?" he whispers. "Why did You abandon Your servant?"

[Devon]

"You're funny Ru-Ru," Lucid says with a smile. "I bet he isn't even mad at you. I drawed on the walls at home and daddy's momma was mad at me until I said sorry. She didn't play with me for the rest of the night, but she wasn't mad anymore."

[Darastrix]

Reuel doesn't seem to hear Lucid as he walks blindly towards his office, whispering pleas for forgiveness to his absent "master." Personally, he would prefer a home on a less public street, but he'd been taught early on that his own wants were of no significance. Besides, with his profession, he needs to be easily accessible in any case.

As he reaches the door, he seems to relax somewhat. He's comfortable here, and knows what's expected of him. He turns to Lucid, as if just remembering the child's prescence, then to the stragling form of the boy's father. "Do you require my services?" Reuel queries.

[Devon]

Kalian finally gets a hand on Lucid who pouts in return. "Uh well I was just trying to stop my son from bothering you so much, but it looks like I failed at that." Glancing around the office, Kalian shrugs and gives into his curiosity as well. "What do you do here?"

Lucid looks around the shop as well trying to see what there was he could get his hands on.

[Darastrix]

The shelves contain neatly arranged books of records, deeds, and copies of other such legal documents. There are drawers as well, containing much the same. Even without looking through the many files, the neatness of the office gives the impression that the notary is very meticulous in his filing. A writing desk is in the corner, set with a fine quill and bottle of ink. In another area of the room is another desk containing a supply of paper, inks, and calligraphy pens, ranging from inexpensive paper and watery inks to pricier thick parchment and dark, vivid pigments. Set under a sheet of clear glass are samples of writing penned in an elegant, flowing script.

"I serve as notary, primarily," Reuel says. "Copying documents and serving as an official witness to signings as needed. I also am asked to write out invitations, formal letters, and such in calligraphy."

[Devon]

"Oh, so you write notes for people. I bet you see a lot of interesting things to copy down." Kalian said this with the intention of starting up and holding a conversation with the man. He had gotten so used to only talking to Lucid, he thought he was loosing his grip on having conversations with adults.

[Darastrix]

Reuel's expression is slightly puzzled. "Notes...?" For the briefest of instances, the Water considers correcting the man, then immediately dismisses the thought. It's not his place to contradict anyone. "I suppose," he murmurs.

[Devon]

Kalian shrugs and rubs the back of his head, "Sorry if I got it wrong, I'm just a dock worker myself. So if what you do for a living is a little over my head forgive me. I'm not saying I'm stupid though, I just don't deal much with finer things like what you do."

Lucid tugs at Reuel's sleeve again. "Can I write too?"

[Darastrix]

Reuel flinches slightly and moves away to set his shopping basket down, unsure how to respond to the child. What would his Master have him do? This is his business, no, he is his Master's, so the business is his as well.

"I...do not believe the Master would approve," he says finally.

[Devon]

Lucid pouts. "Why not?" he asked. Kalian patted his son on the head. "If Mr. Reuel can't teach you, he can't teach you. There is no need to pout like that." Looking up at the other gentlemen Kalian offed his apology, "Sorry about him bothering you so much."

[Darastrix]

"It doesn't matter," Reuel murmurs, looking vaguely perplexed. He can't imagine why the other man is here if he doesn't need his services. People don't generally stand around and talk. Not to him, anyway.

"Do you need something copied or notarized?" he asks again.

[Devon]

Kalian glances around the shop once again before idly muttering under his breath, "Friendly guy." Turning to face Reuel again he shook his head, "Uh no I don't really need anything I was just making a little small talk. Thought you might enjoy the company a little, but I guess not."
