Gale walked stiffly towards where she was told River was being held. Her eyes were cast down, instead of staring boldly ahead, and she barely brought her voice up beyond a soft tone. In short, she had been tamed considerably.
To the guard outside River's cell, she said simply, "I wish to see Lord River."
The guard looked her over with a steady eye, but he was told that she would probably come here eventually. He pulled out his keys and unlocked the cell door, allowing her in. After she got all the way through he closed it behind her, not locking it though.
River was sitting on a bench, looking rather beaten up himself. His clothing was normal white shirt and brown beaten up pants. His hair was ruffled and his exposed flesh showed many signs of bruising. His eyes lit up hopefully when Gale entered the room, only for his heart to sink when his observent eye caught her gait.
"By the Earth Mother Gale, what did they do to you?"

"Nothing," she lied, a lump catching her throat. Her noble leader, in proverbial chains and all-too-real bruises. She hesitated, then came closer and observed his wounds with pain. "Dio is going to get hell for this. I was afraid you weren't being treated well. M'lord, I'm so sorry I have been unable to free you from this wretched state."
River looked up to the woman, he knew she was lying. He was pretty sure that she knew that he would know she was lying. That figured out, he knew better then to press it any further. He reached up with a hand and touched her softly on the shoulder. He was even able to muster another one of his smiles for her.
"This is nothing that I wouldn't take for the people of this Mountain Gale. Put Dio paying, yeah, that's going to happen sooner then he likes. Nobody worries my general and gets away with it. Now if only there were someone that we both knew that has had time to brew a plan to get us out of this mess."
He spoke with a smirk, he had to keep his voice down so the guard wouldn't hear the specifics. One way or another the guard would report that they met and Dio would prepare for some insugency of another. Luckily, it wasn't an insurgency that he will have to deal with.

Gale's head snapped up and she finally met his gaze evenly, the flicker of hope passing over her face. She dropped her quiet voice into a barely audible whisper. "Do you have a plan, m'lord? You have only to tell me what to do, and I will follow your plans unerringly." Even with their slight contact, River should be able to sense the tension and excitement mounting in her.
River nodded his head, almost as happy as she was with the hope of a plan. He lowered his voice to about what hers was, keeping the idea simple yet plausible so that word could be passed through loyalists everywhere.
"Like all megalomaniacs Dio has made a mistake. He controls the city with agents that can act almost immediately at his call. This makes him hard to act against because you can't remove them all at one time, too many losses to us if we try one at a time. So we need to be able to pick them off while he isn't able to make the call, while his network is down. There are three things we have to do to make this work. One, distract Dio keeping his mind on some inane task. Two, clean out the warrior monks in one swift action leaving only loyalists. And three, take out the mind types under his command, whose names and basic descriptions I happen to have written down in my home. Luckily for us he only recruits wanted criminals."
He knew there were holes everywhere in this plan, especially with the part where he distracts Dio. The man is most probably always thinking of empire, and thus it will be difficult to distract him. Maybe a talk about empire will have the right effect though.

Gale's mind races as she nods slowly. "I think I can achieve all of this, m'lord. I need only to tap the loyal monks again, and inform them that they need to take out the weeds in our fair garden on my signal. As for distracting Dio..." Her eyes hardened. "I can do that as well. I'll give some of my most trusted comrades the instructions to go to your home and retrieve information on the Mind types you mentioned. Now, my lord, you must promise me to keep yourself safe during all this."
River had heart and knew he was trusting the right person with the task. One thing nagged at him though, how it was she planned on distracting Dio long enough for the plan to work. Mostly because of the downtrodden way she looked when she entered... she didn't look this distracted when she was faced with the end of the world.
"Gale, how do you plan to keep him occupied? I trust you with both mind and heart that it would work... I just don't want you to do something you will regret when this is through."
He had a plan of his own for distracting the man, he needen't heap all of this responsibility on the woman's shoulders. She has the entire weight of Humontis on them already as it is. Last thing he needs is to have her break due to his carelessness.
River was caught more by surprise then anything at her embrace. But, it didn't take him long to settle in and return it to her in kind. It was a bright spot in what has been a dark couple of days.
"Gale, this whole endeavor wouldn't make much sense if I died before it was over. I'm more worried about you then myself, but you aren't going to let me do anything other then trust you I'm sure. There is a reason I chose you to be where you are, and right now I am once again seeing exactally why. May the Forces bless you and the Earth Mother guide your steps."
He loosened up so she could move out, he is sure that the guard was itching to tear the two away from each other by now anyway. He would have felt much better if he got to distract Dio, but Gale has proven herself time and again, he had to believe that she would do this in the best way possible.

Gale hesitated, just for a heartbeat or two, before turning and letting herself out. She gave the guard a slight glare before sinking back into her previous state of solemn, quiet obedience. After she'd managed to slip word to her most trusted comrades, and it hadn't been easy, she waited until word had reached her that they were ready to begin executing the plan immediately. All she had to do was keep Dio occupied, and give them a sign.
She took a deep breath and approached Dio's quarters, knocking on the door. Now, as always, it choked her to have to refer to him by title. "M'lord?"
Dio smiled when she entered, obviously happy with whatever the arrangement was they made earlier. The sound in her voice was all the more musical to his ears. He stood when she entered, she had his full attention as she adressed him.
"Yes my general? How may I help you?"
He had been informed of her meeting with River, like the earth leader suspected, and it was obvious that he had a couple more guards around him then usual. This includes the usual presence of Terezia, flashing the bone piercing the flesh on her arm as menacingly as possible.

Gale studied Dio closely, then with utmost gravity, informed him, "I'm afraid that the Crown has heard of the recent activity going on in the Mountain. I've received word via pigeon from Queen Lya that she .. Hm... strongly urges you to give custody of the mountain back to River. Given your penchant for negotiations..." She sneered over the word, "I sent word back that you would meet the Queen to discuss the matter on a neutral territory.. In this case, Ilyamen."
Dio seemed to be angry with this, if he wanted to negotiate with Lya it would be on home turf. If she didn't like that he would risk war with the kingdom. If he won his conquest would be swift, he simply cannot believe that Gale would make such a move.
"Why did you reply without infroming me you little...?" He almost had to physically restrain himself to keep from swearing, "when is the meeting you set up? Ignoring it might push more countries then just the kingdom to war..."
He whispered something to Terezia, only to leave the mantis grinning. He shot an almost feral look back to Gale for putting him in such a precarious position.
"Is there any other news general? If not I would like to have some private words with you about stepping over authority."

"There is no other news," Gale remarked coolly. Of course it was all a pack of lies, but it gave her a little twisted glee in having gotten Dio so riled up. And on top of that, it worked. "The meeting is in a week's time, just enough time for you to pack and be to Ilyamen."
