Faolan whined again, of all things he expected a dragon to talk about, he chose this.
"Why?....Well...I am told by my Elders that the three founders of the clans, Seere, Poldora, Beleg, they simply couldn't agree on anything and made their own clans. Then, the other beasts could simply choose which life suited them best. This is just a silly tale for the children, but there is some truth in it. The different natures of our affinities simply can not coexist.
Those with a thirst for war: the rhino, the eagle and many others as well as all their descendants chose Beleg.
Those who strove to be superior: the wolf, the stag and their kin chose Poldora.
And those who simply wished to live a peaceful life: The mocking bird, the otter and their kin chose Seere. I can not make it any clearer..."
The great wolf pondered for a long while, chewing on his thoughts. He sat down, tired of standing, and studied the beast sign on the pads of his left paw. With a long, ivory talon, he traced the contours of his elemental mark.
"Allthough..." Faolan said now, "Our youngest clan, Alauvar, is worth more thought...."
Alauvar. The clan the children speak of in whispers of wonder, shrouded in mystery and myth, a clan of aquatic beasts. Mermaids and seaserpants...Some may not think it exists, but Faolan has been there.
"It is odd. A mix of views, the aggressive live with the passive. Any member of any other clan would never want to live there at all, yet they share many of their beliefs. Beleg and Poldora would find it terribly dull and devoid of glory and Seere would shrink back from their rough ways. But it's worth looking into....perhaps....." Faolan trailed off again, lost in thought.
