"Damien was like that for me when we were children," admits Shadow. "Although I'm not sure anyone could call the pair of us friends. Too hot tempered for our own good." Shadow drinks a bit more of his wine. Like Lya, he's forgotten to eat anything and the wine is having a serious effect on him. "What did you go to talk to Laura about?"

Lya smiles coyly at Shadow - suddenly this is turning into one of those fun games that young girls played on boys; teasing them. "Oh... You," she said with a grin growing wider. "You're such a problem, Shadow, did you know that? Tsk.." Trying not to burst into giggles, she slipped, "I don't know whether to kiss you or send you away so I'm not so tempted!" For a few moments, she just laughs until what she actually said catches up to her numbed mind and her laughter abruptly ceases as she covers her mouth with a hand, horrified at her words.

Lya stood quite still and silent for a few moments before slowly removing her hand from her mouth as she whispered, "The wine only took my wits away long enough for me to spill the truth," she admitted. "I was sincere. I am so sorry, Lord Shadow, if I've offended you."

Lya looks at him, stunned, then slowly smiles. The tension of the moment left her so emotionally weary that she felt she would cry, and it took a few moments to restrain any tears that tried to spring forth. "Truly?" This was... wonderful news! "Ah... Shadow, I will be honest then. The proposal of official marriage was supposed to include us in the original plan. I just didn't feel comfortable with being so forward without knowing whether or not you thought of me as a good, casual neighbor or something else."

Shadow smiles. "Yes, that would have been awkward if we didn't feel like we do," he agrees. "Although it might have prompted us into a confession earlier, though I was planning to admit how I felt tonight in any case."

"I planned to do so more gracefully," Lya admitted with a very faint laugh. "Ah, but... Now what do we do with ourselves?" She felt as though she'd suddenly tread into an area of conversation where every step had to be precise and careful.

Shadow tries to shake himself out of the daze Lya's confession caused him but the only thought in his mind is, "She feels like I do. She feels like I do." After a moment he admits, "I'm not sure Lya. I'm still getting my mind around the fact you... care about me..."

"I understand," she says, smiling slightly. "Before the war, I'd have been the same. I'm.. starting to get used to considering the implication of things before letting my feelings numb my mind. How very cold hearted of me, hm?" She says the last line in jest with a slight smile.

"The day you're cold hearted will be the day the sun doesn't rise," replies Shadow, grinning. Then in a moment of sudden courage, he gives her a tiny kiss on the cheek and comments, "Your kind heartedness and sweetness are part of the reason I care about you."

Lya smiles and blushes, slipping her hand into his and squeezing it. "And your bravery and humanity are what appeal to me. You are a refreshing change from any Storm I'd ever met." Gazing contently at him, she gives a start when one of her servants clears his voice.
"M'lady," he says mildly, trying to look calm despite the fact that he was obviously interrupting. "The hour grows late. You agreed to show your plans, designed today, to the council of the four winds tomorrow."

Lya settles against the back of her chair and rubs her forehead a moment before explaining. "North, south, east, and west winds. They represent the districts of all of Talen'sul, not just the home city, but the outlying areas as well. They also represent four of the most important factions of the people. There's the Artificers, the men and women who look to advance technology and our understanding of the world. There's the Military, the Domestic, and the Foreign Relations positions as well. The council more or less agrees or fights with me over any decision I wish to make. Whatever conclusion we come to, they go back and carry news of it all over Talen'sul."
