Edgar adjusted the strap holding his spear to his back as entered the valley, a nervous frown on his face. His supplies were running dangerously low and he needed a job. Badly. Still, his dignity was paramount and he wouldn't make a beggar out of himself. With war brewing all over, Edgar was trying his level best to simply stay out of it all, and so far he'd managed to avoid being pulled into it. His stance of non-involvement seemed to have been backfiring lately. He couldn't help but wonder how long he'd be able to live on conviction alone.

Out from one of the fields came a young woman who was getting jaded from the heat and the work at the fields. She decided to steal some time to go to a nearby well and catch a drink. Her father wouldn't mind anyway... if she wasn't so good he wouldn't have even allowed her to work the fields in the first place. She noticed the man and finding it strange for someone who didn't look like a beast-affinity to be strange... she decided to strike up a conversation, she was on break anyway.

"Hello there sir, what brings you to the Fields of Flora? Are you looking for something tasty fresh off the vine?"

She speaks with conviction, a tone that was far from childlike, even though the words themselves were playful. She looks towards him while leaning on the rake she happened to have with her.

"Maybe." He paused for a moment, then began again, almost as an afterthought. "I'm a traveler, ma'am. Looking for a job, perhaps, and a few herbs to fill out my inventory..." A gloved hand patted the leather bag strapped to his side; other than the spear, he wasn't carrying anything else, save the clothes on his back.

She thought to herself for a moment before speaking again.

"Well, I'm sorry to tell you I probably cannot help you directly with either. If you need herbs you should check with those that specialize in herbalism... The Tinis family over in that direction," she motions in the distance, where a small hut could be seen, "as far as a job, what kind of things are you good at?"

She looks towards him, her green eyes seeming to sparkle due to the humidity of the lands.

"I try to be flexible." Edgar managed a faint grin; it wasn't as if he could say that he specialized in beating people up for a living. "Any odd jobs or something like that would be fine, and I have some experience with healing."

He started to say something else, but was interrupted by an almost obscene grumbling from his stomach. Edgar's face reddened several shades. "...I guess I could use a bite to eat, too."

She giggled at him, and when she brought the hand covering her mouth down it revealed a cute smile.

"Well, as far as odd jobs go a farm is a great place to at least ask... and if nothing else come with me and I am sure my family would love to have company for dinner."

She stood in front of him offering him to hold her rake, as if to say 'take this if you accept'. If nothing else, well, he could always find something in Obsidian.

"Much appreciated, miss." He takes the rake in his gloved left hand, nodding in thanks. He certainly wasn't going to turn down anyone's food, not at this point. "My name is Edgar, by the way..."

She smiles that he took the rake then turned towards her house, she replied to his introduction in a sort of sing-song manner.

"Well sir Edgar, you may call me Opal... my family lives right over in that little farmhouse. You are welcome inside of course, and I notice you don't say much, I promise my family dosn't ask, so you don't have to tell."

She continued to lead the way back to her house.

(OOC: I would like to personally apologize for the waiting length between these posts, it is difficult for me to find computer time as of late, but I try I promise)

"Tell?" Edgar blinked; he wondered if she thought he was some sort of thug or mercenary--which he was, but he'd never done anything bad. Nothing he could recall, at least. He sighed and simply let it go, clasping his arms behind his back. "A pleasure to meet you, Miss Opal."

Opal came to her front door and opened it for him to go inside.

"Yes tell, we don't care what your status in the world is around here all lives are equal to the earth mother. In any case it is good to meet you, have a seat and I will tell mom to prepare an extra place for you."

She hurried off allowing Edgar to make himself at home while she wandered in to help her mother with the preparations.

Leaving both his spear and the rake outside, Edgar silently entered the Opal's home and took a seat, trying to relax. He couldn't help but frown as he looked around the simple dwelling, thoughts of his mother triggered by the surroundings. He even missed his father, cantankerous old fool that he was, though he still wouldn't fully let himself admit it.

He shifted a bit in his chair as he tried to determine what to do next. Aimless wandering wasn't going to get him anywhere, but he still wasn't sure where to begin. He bowed his head slightly and closed his eyes, offering silent prayer to the Forces to guide him to the truth.

An older woman broke the silence, obviously Opal's mother, she spoke in a sort of sing-song voice.

"Oh, you must be from away from here, Earths don't give thanks to the earth mother until after the meal. Oh well, don't let me stop you... food is ready whenever you are."

She took her seat at the table where four plates were already made out... the other children of the family eating in the other room. Opal got to sit at the main table tonight due to the guest. It was her father that spoke next though.

"Now now, let the man do whatever it is he wishes... and after meal we can talk about this employment you are looking for. I heard you are a jack of all trades, but can you think of any special skills? Otherwise the best I can give you is maybe transport of produce around Naruta when harvest's finish."

"Hm?" Edgar looked up at the older woman. "No, I was... ...never mind." He offered an apologetic smile, looking over the offered food on the table. It had been some time since he'd had a home-cooked meal and he had to actively remind himself not to eat like he might've in the wild.

"Special skills... Sad to say, the brunt of my 'skills' usually involve being physical, in one capacity or another... I do enjoy building things though; I was a carpenter's apprentice for a while last summer." He thought long and hard; transporting produce wasn't exactly beneath him. "Barring any of that, making deliveries sounds like it would be worthwhile. Nice and quiet..."

The father laughed to himself, but then caught it and straightened out.

"Well it is good you are good at physical stuff when it comes to transporting shipments. Often caravans get attacked in one capacity or another. Whether it be beggers, people who don't want to pay, or since you have to cross the beastlands an animal or two might be attracted."

He looks towards Edgar to see if he is still interested, even knowing all he has just been told.

"Ah, I see." Edgar nodded, barely giving his response any thought at all. "I'd be more than happy to work for the caravan, if you'd have me."

Edgar smiled faintly and went back to eating; he made a mental note to shave later.
